Justin Wilcox On Communication Problems

Here’s USC defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox on the problems the defense had communicating during the Boston College game.

  1. Not sure how long this guy is going to last here. Im not impressed with what I’ve seen of him or this defense so far here.

  2. “Gotta be on the same page.” A meaningless coach speak. And then he said that when the game started going the other way, the “sway” he called it, SC…..(Wolf cut him off at that point)

So I have no way to know what Coach Wilcox is thinking

  3. And this is the guy everyone figures to branch off and be a head coach soon…

  4. DC Wilcox had to know the defense was facing a mobile duel-threat QB. The D held its ground, OK somewhat, defending the middle (thank you Coach Wilson). But Sua Cravens said they knew BC wanted to run on the outside. What were the defensive adjustments to counter this in the 2nd quarter thru the rest of the game? Wilcox now has to know…. every future opponent with a duel-threat QB will want to see the BC game because of how poorly the team covered the mobile QB. Also, are our LBs too bulky-too slow to cover running backs & mobile QBs on the outside? We already know they have a hard time covering offensive ends on pass plays.

  5. No need to fret. It’s just BS coach-speak from SS and JW until after Oregon State, ASU, and AZ. Until then, my attitude for both of them is: Go Better or Go Home.

They will do it, or they won’t.

Sark spent months distinguishing himself from Kiffin, feeding the fans exaggerated expectations, and overcoming the general perception that he hadn’t shown he was a worthy hire while at UW.

Then he and his DC got sloppy about reading the signs from one game (Stanford), and proactively intervening before the next game. USC was beaten in all phases of the game.

Next, he and his DC kept talking vague, circular coach-speak. They take the blame, but don’t have a clear, focused thoughts about the future.

And now, I’m one of the more charitable readers, not just on this site, but on all the sites.

For Sark, USC looks a little different when it his staff, not PC’s staff. For Wilcox, it must seem like a the finger of fate is very fickle indeed.

You two get three games to show me. You don’t have to win them all, but you and the team have to look prepared, motivated, and flexible all three times.

Like I said, Go Better or Go Home.
