What Happened To The Front 7?

TAVAI.FUMBLEUSC’s offensive line struggled last week against Boston College. But it was supposed to struggle with three new starters.

What mystifies three games into the season is why the defensive front 7 is not playing better. USC’s ranked No. 116 in rushing defense with a front 7 that Justin Wilcox praised before the season.

I keep hearing the excuse that Hayes Pullard missed the first half of the Boston College game. BC rushed for 197 yards in the first half. And 255 in the second when Pullard played. Now Pullard is a warrior,no question, but fans/media seem to be looking for an excuse.

And the excuse is the front 7 has not performed to expectations. It’s far worse for a team strength to be a weakness than having a weakness like the offensive line be a weakness.

    • What a bore. Gonna leave a mark…whole ‘nother level…crotch kick…hawr, hawr…over and over, over and over.

You are one mentally deficient troll or, as better stated by Mr. Bill, when describing uclaownszilch:

      “You’re a dysfunctional emotionally insecure low-life addicted to a rival’s blog.”

  1. “It’s far worse for a team strength to be a weakness than having a weakness like the offensive line be a weakness.”- Wolfian logic redefined.

    • Exactly, Helen

That sentence caught my eye as well. Spoken by a man who never played football, at any level.

  2. USC has only one truly superior positional group: WR.

Every other spot is absolutely not exceptional, with the exception of Leonard Williams. But the rest of the DLs are no big deal. And no, Buck Allen is not a great back by any means. He’s good, often just solid. But great! High draft choice? No way.

  3. sage wisdom for all Cadre to see, hmmmm?

worse it is, to have a team strength that is a weakness,

i mean, better it is to have a strength that is a weakness, if the weakness….

wait, if the offense it strong, then it’s weak…

oh screw it, just read what the wolfman says

    herh herh herh!

    • Chuckie: why do you see a need to post under multiple personnas? Is this sorta like Andy Kaufman and his inspiration of the theatricality of kayfabe and his own tendency to form elaborate hoaxes, like wrestling women? Kaufman was known as the Inter-Gender Wrestling Champion of the World… are you shooting for the title of Inter-Gender USC Troll of the World? Just wondering.

      • Bucket, i am not.

        but wrestle you, i will.

        only one Condition, there is.

No Holds Barred, will there be.

        Herh Herh Herh!

      • Look at the assts McKay had, who Robo had the first time around, who PC had in the beginning before his ego ran them off, they were high quality coaches.

    • Wilcox drop two back safeties.. Stanford passes underneath all day
Wilcox drop back two safeties.. BC Runs all day..
      Wilcox is terrible..

  4. Maybe Wilcox is attempting to do too much instead of simplifying matters. Allow the kids to utilize their athletism and attack. I believe that was the issue early last season. The kids were having to think too much. That may be the case this season with a new complex system.

Another thing is that they are not swarming very well. The pursuit is lacking on plays. BC said that was their ploy to spread the Trojans out by running from sideline to sideline with sweeps, outside QB Options and reverses to tire the Trojans out.

  5. Well back @ WA Sark did hire Nick Holt – Holt sure had a knack for coughing up huge leads.

It’s early still time will tell.

  6. The problem with your front 7 is there are only 7 of them. Seriously, if you are going to run the NHHU O, then your D is going to be on the field more, and you need to platoon. SC’s first 7 are very good, but you need more bodies.

  7. That is an easy one, there is no depth because of injuries and sanctions. With all the time on the field they were worn down and more prone to mistakes.

  8. Look at Justin Wicox’s history, he was the DC on Chris Peterson’s Boise State’s championship type teams, but guess what ? Many coaches have rode that Blue wave of Boise and have never produced anywhere else. Once Wilcox left Boise he was just another Coach, because he did nothing special at Cal, Tennessee or Washington. And is a matter of fact he was still under contract to Washington when Peterson took over, and guess what ? Peterson never offered him the DC job. And I wonder why …lol !!
