Sunday Night With Sarkisian

ALLEN.BOSTON.COLLEGE

Maybe the most interesting from Steve Sarkisian’s meeting with reporters tonight is that he acknowleged the running backs are getting tackled too easily, especially in one-on-one situations in the secondary.

“When you’re one-on-one, that should be an advantage,” Sarkisian said.

He also mentioned special teams as the biggest disappointment of the game. Regarding kickoff coverage, Sarkisian said USC is not doing the things it practices during the week.

“That’s a problem and we need to fix it,” he said.

Meanwhile, offensive lineman Jordan Simmons suffered a bone bruise on his knee in practice late last week and will be out 1-2 weeks

  1. Agree. RBs need to show more of a ‘tude. Glad to see Sark is applying the heat here. Justin Davis showed some real glimpses last night but I think he’s got a lot more to him if he accepts the challenge to break into the next level. He really pushed Buck Allen last night and Allen responded. Will need to see more of that if this Trojan team is to amount to anything.

    • To say an RB shouldn’t succumb to one hit is sort of to say he should be a different person, don’t you think?

What is correctable? is their pad level too high? Do they run too straight up and down?

You can’t learn to have the balance of Barry Sanders. Maybe you can learn some of the low forward lean of Jim
Brown, but what would it mean without his extraordinary strength and power?

      • The best RBs seem to be able to frequently evade or run through the first tackler. Guys like Reggie Bush and Lendale White come to mind. Maybe you either have it or you don’t. Sark seems to be suggesting to his RBs that they can do a better job getting by that first guy. I guess we’ll find out if SC’s backs can do a better job of breaking tackles. Maybe they can’t get any better than they already are.

  2. They bounced back from the BC meltdown. Played solid overall, though OSU made them look ragged in the first half. Sark seems to be have a handle on what needs to be done. I like the progress. Every game will be a challenge, there are no easy games for SC. Kessler has been impressive with his decisions. Can’t wait till Saturday.

  3. GT & Jack B ‘echo both of you’ – Sark inherited a WA team coming off a 0-12 record. Special teams needs better punt coverage but as the year goes forward the heavy load thrown onto the freshman linemen will serve them well as a group who went through this year.

AZ St. next – still in the running for the Pac-12 South title.

Equally great – LAA and LAD are in post-season – let’s hope for a ‘Freeway Series’ after 54 years of waiting.

  4. I touched bases with some Husky fans on their blog recently and was startled to see the contempt they have already for Chris Petersen!! Seems many are asking for a return to the good old days with Sark. That bonehead move by Petersen with the fake punt that cost UW the game with Stanford was the last straw.

  5. M. Lee out with a concussion (hit head against a pillow taking a nap) against the Charger’s. Will Lee able to pick up his pay chex?

    • You are trolling a concussion now? What’s next, trolling Darryl Stingley for being a wuss cause he won’t stand up?

      • He spends his entire days and nights fishing for attention by making outrageous statements on this blog, with no topic off limits….Dude has absolutely zero class…..and he has no filter, since he hides, like the coward he is, behind his screen name… and keep in mind that he is over 60 years old…a pathetic existence, if there ever was one….

        • The Jags have played 4 games this year, Lee was uninjured for a grand total of 1 game. The M. Lee mantra: “I’m so hurt coach,” but not too hurt to collect his pay chex.

          M. Lee, just another loser SUCC Pro FB BUST, and taking somebody’s money under false pretense. The SUCC tradition continues.

        • Say what “UCLA Bleauz.” Your screen name, allows you to chuck air bricks and stamps you a bigger coward than TF.

  6. I’m sure we’re all sad to hear of the firing of Charlie Weis at Kansas. Remember the big build-up of Carroll vs. Weis? Defense vs. Offense? Yeah, Carroll and USC won that battle.

Interesting that Ed Orgeron is mentioned as a possible replacement for Weis at Kansas.

    • Orgeron deserves the opportunity, although recruiting any decent talent to Lawrence, Kansas may be a challenge….

      • Agree Orgeron deserves another chance but Kansas is not it. He needs to coach in the South where he has an opportunity to recruit some good players.
