Steve Sarkisian Defends Justin Wilcox

Steve Sarkisian was asked today about the job performance of defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox.

“I think he’s doing a really good job,” Sarkisian said. “Justin’s done a very good job. We’re lucky to have him.”

  1. What would you expect Sark to say Wolfie?

Why didn’t you ask Sark how he could say such a thing in view of USC’s historic losses to BC and ASU, both of which involved huge collapses on defense? What’s your excuse?

    • I wouldn’t expect him to say anything else, but Sark believe’s he IS DOING A GOOD JOB, that’s the difference.

    • Exactly. And if he threw Willcox under the bus, then Scottie would say Sark is supporting his coaches.

  2. Hmm, that is perhaps the most jaw-dropping endorsement since Dubya’s “you’re doing a hell of the job, Brownie!”

Just a tad tone-deaf there, Steverino. Well we get a re-set at AZ, I think we’ll rally there, a chance to get back into top 25 with a win.

  3. The question is how do you define “very good job”?
Last year @ Washington Justin Wilcox’s defense gave up 297 points in 13 games = 22.8 points per game. Guess what? USC’s poor defense last year gave up exactly the same amount of points (297) but against stiffer competition. This year USC is giving up 21.6 points per game!
USC’s total defense is ranked #66 nationally
Rushing defense is ranked #71 nationally
Passing defense is ranked #54 nationally
I would suggest Coach SARK start to look at how many cheap years we (USC) are giving up & demand we apply pressure in certain passing situations. The bend don’t break defense is not working & neither is the PREVENT defense which prevents USC from winning.
Lastly, why is Coach Wilcox taking Su’a Cravens off the field on 3rd downs? He is a great play maker & should be on the field!

    • I JUST HAVE TWO QUESTIONS WITH THIS WILCOX DEFENSE….

      WHERE IS THE PASS RUSH?
      WHERE ARE THE BLITZ SCHEMES?

  4. I picture Sark making those comments in a “must… kill… Frank Drebin” tone of voice.

  5. And at the end of the season Justin Wilcox will amicably “wink wink” part ways with USC to spend more time with his family..lol !

  6. What else is he supposed to say, five games into a 13-14 game season? Geez, Scott.

      • No, not really. Born and raised Angeleno, half family UCLA grads (I’m an ’85 alum and season tix holder since ’88), and half family USC. To get along in my family, especially at Thanksgiving, you need to learn to be respectful.

    • I believe that this is about the only time that I have ever disagreed with you. Reid Silverman is an immature valley girl joke. Go over to Gary P’s site and check out Lizell Brandt…
She is a reasonable interviewer who at least has some football acumen.

      • Quotes from unnamed sources don’t necessarily represent the reporter and do not imply a hidden agenda to convey a snarky comment.

  7. Sark’s tenure at Washington was very much like the Book of Daniel… The Handwriting was on the Wall! We got the first of many inane comments from a less than mediocre coach.

  8. The bottom line is when the Trojan defense has to stop the other side from scoring to have a chance to win the game, it has happened too few times. Offensive coordinators in this league are salivating in playing USC now. I give Sark a few more losses, then he will just say “no comment” to Wilcox questions which means he is then feeling the pressure to do something. I am very sorry to say, I think those next losses are coming soon to where Sark will be looked at as another Kiffin if he doesn’t make changes when it is obvious it is the coaching causing the losses…
