USC Morning Buzz: GameDay Edition

A top 10-ranked team is coming off an emotional game and ready to show the country it is for real.

That is the scenario for tonight’s USC-Arizona game at Arizona Stadium in a critical Pacific-12 South Division contest. The only problem is nearly everyone thought USC would be the top 10 team and Arizona the team just trying to keep a winning record.

Here is the rest of my preview of today’s crucial game.

  1. If SC plays a complete game for 60 minutes they win big. Have yet to see that since Fresno St. Go Ducks!

  2. Like all of Scottie’s game-day articles – basically a Cliff Notes synapsis of events/quotes from the previous week. At least no usual tie-ins to Kiffin so maybe Scottie is showing progress.

  3. Sorry to say Scotty, but I don’t remember anyone thinking SC would be a top-10 team…nor did they think that of Arizona. SC was figured around 15, but it has been a topsy-turvy year for a lot of teams. The winner of the South could have 2 or 3 losses by the end of the season.

  4. Let’s face it. USC has been a big disappointment. But they’re still a very dangerous team. They can beat, or lose to, probably any team on their schedule. Should be a fun ride. I think this team has some good wins in it as well as some more tough losses. Sark needs to recruit like hell. I’m just hoping for a ND/ucla split. As far as the Arizona game goes tonight, your guess is as good as mine.

    • I think virtually anyone in the league can beat or lose to anyone else. I wouldn’t be surprised by an SC win or an Arizona win. I think UCLA could win or lose by 21. Crazy year.

      • I’m thinking Auburn will take it all. Picking the top 4 looks like it’s gonna start a lot of arguments, but I don’t believe anyone from the Pac-12 will make it. It’s gonna be a great year for upsets and week to week change-ups. I agree with you.

  5. The assistant coach stating that SC is 10 points away from being undefeated is off-base. SC really was not in the game in the second half with Boston College. ASSU, of course, was a different matter, but time to move on.

SC is doing pretty well, especially when it looks as if the champion of the Pac-12 will probably have 2 conference losses, and possibly 3.

But Arizona has now taken on very heavy importance, and this game could easily go either way, depending on turnovers.

  6. I certainly hope nobody uses this game as a measuring stick to see how good USC is, because this 5-0 Arizona team has not played any top ranked team except for Oregon.
