Running Back Depth Issue

"1018_SPT_LDN-L-USC-COLORADO -MB"It seems USC is a Javorius Allen injury away from being in a near-disaster at the tailback position. That would leave only Justin Davis.

Before he injured his hamstring, why wasn’t Soma Vainuku prepped at tailback? There was a lot of talk in the spring about how the new offense uses a fullback, but Vainuku’s seen little time at the position in games.

So why not make him a tailback instead of merely the special teams MVP. USC talks constantly about its depleted roster with less than 60 players available last week. So why not make Vainuku a tailback just in case?

  1. Questions, questions, questions…Wolfie thinks you just “make tailbacks.” At USC no less. Good luck with that coach.

  2. Pretty much concur, although Vainuku should have already been given a ton more carries, whether it be as a TB, a FB, or whatever. He is more than just a pretty face that blocks. He currently is our leading rusher at 6.7 YPC. Unfortunately the powers that count have only had him run with the pigskin 7 times in 6 games. Disgusting at best! We also have a freshman WO named Toland who is anything but chopped liver. So far he has only been used in mop-up operations supported by 2nd & 3rd stringers (if our OL can go that deep). He has been relegated to only take the hand off and hit the line again and again, when all in the stadium, opponents, viewers, and my dead grandma know what is coming. He gives new meaning to being thrown to the wolves.
For a kid who has the makings of being our #1 TB in a few years, he is being treated like caca (see Bucket for translation). It is way beyond time for the head shed to get a clue and make use of existing resources..

    • And don’t forget Jahleel Pinner, who played tailback in high school at Mission Viejo…..

    • Judging from the limited amount of playing time, I think Toland has a bright future. The key is to stay health!

    • You piss me off Larry Harris, because you didn’t give me a chance to say what you just said..lol! It just amazes me how James Toland is used as an after thought.

  3. as ALWAYS, the WOLFMAN is 15-20 moves AHEAD of Siete and O’Hadden!!!

while liar Siete dodges Coach Banker and O’Hadden runs around acting crazy, only the WOLFMAN is coming up with any CONSTRUCTIVE IDEAS to salvage this DISASTER of a season!!!

    wolfman, you keeeep ooooooon THINKIN’!!!!!!!

      • Based on this morning’s LA Times article it seems the CO ‘OL’ is in the ursa minor McKinley head – revealing as he has yet to play CO

  4. Wolf, why don’t you go to practice sometime and ask the coach, then you can report on your in depth one on one with him.

  5. I seriously doubt our running game will be effective the rest of the year. The conditioning is not there and the coaches are too busy trying to hide shady practices to help out.

  6. Hey Wolf. Why are we so mired in turmoil? I mean, why can’t we learn to be a better program? Is there any hope for our long gone team?

  7. Don’t forget about James Toland. Yes he’s a walk-on, but every report I heard from spring/fall camp and practices indicated he’s be on a scholarship if it was possible. He been in games this season too. He knows the position and playbook, and is actually is the #3 RB on the depth chart.

  8. One name…. #26 James Toland, His lack of playing time is just another example of Steve Sarkisian’s lack of awareness and coaching knowledge .
