USC Morning Buzz: Football Second

TOWEL.WAVERS

This came up during yesterday’s appearance with Petros and Money. But when does football became the signature issue surrounding the football program?

Josh Shaw. Anthony Brown. The Steve Sarkisian-Pat Haden sideline incident at Stanford. The phone call/non-phone call to Oregon State assistant coach Mark Banker. The yellow-towel wavers. Hotel damage before the Arizona State game. Victor Blackwell’s arrest. The LenDale White incident. When does football become paramount?

“I don’t know if more things happen, we’re just more consistent (than other teams),” joked a member of the program.

  1. Football(on the field) will never be a priority to you, unless the results are negative. If SC had struggled vs. the Buffs, people like you, Petros and $$ would have spent your time discussing how out of sorts the Trojans are. Since that didn’t happen, you obsess on Lendale White and Josh Shaw. You are the reason that I (and many others) cancelled our subscription to the Daily News.

  2. Wolf is trying to show the true nature of this program. It is mired in shady business and Wolf has not even scratched the surface on all of it. Only time will tell…

    • Let’s play a game; Guess who “Compton G” is/used to be.

My first vote is NOBS. Second would be “UCLA Owns.”

    • Croption – We are soooooo glad that you are an Alumni of USC!! Great work!!
      #trollloser

  3. This list reminds me of the lyrics from the ‘Eve of Destruction,’ simply cherry-picking any negativity and blowing it up out of proportion.

Try this on for size Mr. Wolf: SC is so popular in the U.S. that when Boston College upset the Trojans the Boston fans rushed the field as if they had won the national championship…the development of the freshmen this season has been outstanding and will pave SC gold in the future….Kessler has stepped up his play…After Stanford had recently beaten SC, Troy has now taken 2 in a row from them…SUCLA and Neuter Dame currently look as if they could be fairly even games…fans are revved up over this Saturday’s Utah-SC game.

      • being new and probably very naive, I would suggest you sit back and not polarize the site any more than it already is. You seem to be a genuine ungrateful little child unable to appreciate what USC has accomplished. Take some time and get your head on straight. To accuse someone of meth use is very childish.

        • Exactly. this is why we fail because we are unable to listen to reason at SC. You all should thank Bucket for the advice.

      • Crompton – As the kids today say whatevs. I am in total agreement with Walcott on this. USC is still building and you nervous ninnies here are worried that USC will start taking your recruits AGAIN!!

        • No worries here. I am a true trogan and trying to make sure that everyone knows we are nowhere near building anything. We need to sort out all of our skeletons first. It is a risk for any new recruits to even think about coming here with all the baggage.

          • Wow such a true Trojan. Nice try but your Bruin colors are flying. Just another Bruin honk, this one without the guts to show his colors.

          • Nice try sherlock. You are not a very good detective. I am a true trogan and get kicked around by all you so called fans.

          • A true Trojan would capitalize the word Trojan dipsh!t. Lets give him an 8 clap and towel wave.

          • SEE… this proves my point that the trogan community is hostile, vile, and none accepting. You kick people to the curb and show no remorse. This is why all recruits should take notice about the state of our program.

          • Keep hoping Bruin boy. Unfortunately, USC will always top “Jimmy Big Game” in recruiting.

          • I guess you will never learn. this is why our program fails and we are the laughing stock of the nation. ESPN calls us the clown college. I guess it is fans like you that define the term.

          • Yes, they should go to Baby Blue U where they have not won a big game in 20 years and the fans hang out on other teams sites. Your new recruit said it best, Josh Rosen quote ” I want to win for a school that isn’t used to winning”…..

          • You sure are obsessed with talking about UCLA on this site. We need to address our shortcomings here at SC and realize we are a joke program with no hope for the future.

    • Is that the same reason why SC fans rushed the field after the Trojans upset Stanford last season?

      • Thai you are on FIRE today, brother!!

(Thai, es en FUEGO hoy, Hermano!!)

PS….how can the act like they’ve been there??? all they got is mythical paper titles!

those trash champeeenships are about as valuable as a junk mail “check:” from the local Kia dealer!!!

  4. Ebola is a money maker for Fox and CNN. Its all about the viewers and clicks. They create the hysteria and then make money off of it. If people picked apart every piece of UCLA or Oregon State who would care? TMZ is making boat loads of money. Just like Fox Scotty helps creates the hysteria and then ask why are people hysterical? It’s a beautiful money making tool.

    • I agree…..there are only a handful of schools that are as polarizing as USC, especially outside the SEC……Notre Dame would be another one….As would Florida State, with the off the field shenanigans of their QB….

      • Bleauz I wouldn’t put FL St. there – this is their moment in the sun – I’d say Miami has the legacy to be placed there.

        • Perhaps, you’re right about FSU…..it’s really more about Famous Jameis Winston who is the polarizing player on that roster

          • I always recall that infamous 1988 Notre Dame vs. Miami ‘Convicts vs. the Catholics’ dustup.

    • the wolfman IS a CASH COW for the DN, but for the RIGHT reasons!!!

i don’t know about hysteria, all i know is the Cadre is CRAZY about the wolfman!!

      #CallMeCrazy

  5. I agree with most here – this is overkill by you Wolf – you had your discussion on PMS yesterday @ 4:30 pm and you’ve already posted numerous pre-post blogs for comment by others.

timtorjan has it right on the junk all programs have to deal with throughout a season.

john wolcott also hit a grand slam noting the hysteria as BC took down mighty Troy at Chesnut Hill. Their alum twins Lupica and Flutie were ecstatic five Sunday mornings ago.

Wolcott is also right re. the future of the freshman linemen – the experience gained this year will reap huge rewards moving forward.

All that is needed is for Pat to take a deep breath and get out of the limelight which I hope he realizes post the LenDale White imbroglio.

  6. USC Ranked as the Greatest College Football Program of All-Time
read about it @ Reign of Troy. All your personality bs Wolf just gets worse and worse. You must be on the ucla payroll. Do you carry a Cadre card? Take pride in the fact the little trolls love you.

    • HAWR-HAWR!!! THAT is FUNNY!!!!

a bunch of homer dorks say we’re #1 with NO empirical data to back it up and Dummies post it as Gospel!!

      #NoCrystal

      #MythicalNonsense

      • It’s the very same “empirical data” that Scottie uses when he fills out his weekly Top 25 college football poll

        • Three ball knows what he talking about, because he’s definitely familiar with cold stoves.

What’s it like living on a windy No. Las Vegas Salt Flat depression, in a two room mansion with detached half bath/chicken coop, and nearby crick?

    • One would expect a site/publication named @ Reign of Troy would have SC at the top. I think there is a place called @ Buckets of Reign that has named Charlie Bucket as the #1 Internet Troll in all College Football.

  7. This is deja vu all over again of Scottie’s stalking of Lane Kiffin.

Scottie: take your meds. Stay focused. Inside USC.

    • more accurately: wolfman running Kiff outta town on a RAIL!!!

Helen, do you really want your noggin to adorn the wall of the Cadre Trophy Room along with Sally, Nubsie and Mono??

      #OnThinIce

  8. Both the USC football program and this current federal administration; I can’t be too specific as to whom I’m referring to when I say federal, because the PC police might get their feelings hurt by the truth, have a lot in common. There is always some type of scandal or distraction that has gone on about once every two weeks, and we all know what they are, so there is no sense in rehashing them. But I think it speaks to a larger issue of incompetent leadership at the highest levels.
I believe that Pat Haden is a fair and honest man, whose integrity is pretty much spotless. However, there have been a number of instances where his lack of leadership experience has reared it’s ugly head. IMHO the two most glaring are the Lane Kiffin fiasco at LAX after the Arizona State game last year and the Lendale White situation last weekend. Both these instances beg the question, what was Haden thinking? Kiffin should have been fired after the Sun Bowl debacle. Then over the summer Haden makes a youtube video praising Kiffin as a great coach and play caller, only to fire him four games into the season. This latest situation with Lendale is really bothersome because the full truth has not been told as to what happened between the two. If Haden is that thin skinned that he gets upset when a former Trojan great calls out a coaching staff that is so-so, then he is not long for the job of AD at a school like USC. Bottom line, if he had a problem with what Lendale tweeted, talk to him about it in private, not on the sideline during the game. It made Haden look childish and petty.

  9. wolfman, your groundbreaking Petros and Money performance is still sending SHOCKWAVES through HH!!!

why?? because you were DEAD ON, as USUAL!!

    #ClassicPerformances

  10. If football, and all the success USC football has enjoyed over the last 100 years, weren’t massively paramount Wolfie, none of these other happenings would have gained even the slightest amount of traction.

  11. The guy spends more time commenting on the sideshow antics than what actually happens at practices and games, ridiculous

Daily New, we seriously need a replacement, HELP

(Hey wolf, save this crap for the National Enquirer, thanks)

  12. I seriously doubt we have a chance to beat Utah. The guys are more concerned with their high score on angry birds. Maybe we need to get into the play book at some point.

  13. “But when does football became the signature issue surrounding the football program?” -Scott Wolf

Good question, when are you going to start reporting on football?

You need something to do? Okay, go find out the who, what and why Josh Shaw hasn’t been reinstated yet. And be pushy about.

    Now go.

    • listen you jive Cracker, it’s the WOLFMAN, who has scoooped more stories than the other LA newspapers…COMBINED!!!!

the Kiff bushwhacking, the Shaw story, the LenDale story, the O’Hadden screw ups, the Siete Lies…..all straight from the wolfman!!!

Petros, one of the most recognizable and distinguished Southern Cal alums, says publicly that wolfman is the “best beat writer in the WORLD”!!!!

don’t you EVER talk down to the wolfman again, unless you want the Cadre all up in your 404 grill, you jive Cracker!

      #CheckYourself

      • And Petros also says that Old Spice is the best mens fragrance in the WORLD!!!….. big deal…. consider the source

        • ALL of the above, National press feeds picked up the wolflman’s scoops on the Kiff bushwhack, the Siete Non-Call to Banker, and the Shaw domestic charge investigation. and i am FORGETTING some, i’m sure!!

          #BestBeatWriterInTheWorld

  14. Football is more paramount to most of your readers. You keep going back to this stupid stuff. It’s not because people are interested. Honestly, there are about 20 people who give a damn about the phone call, and reporters make up about 75% of that group.

  15. This is terribly written! and has Scott Wolf’s name attached to it..
You own this Wolf? Please tell me someone is stealing your log on and posting this terrible write up.
