Pick The Score

You saw the Gold Sheet expects a close game. This is a tough one. Utah will wear their new helmets, which Pete Carroll used to say was not good for a team because it made a game bigger than it was. So what score will you pick?

  1. They scored 3 points last year, yet Scottie believes their QB is going to run around USC like BC did?? USC 31 – UTAH 21

      • Yes, sir! This team has a lot to be proud of, competing at this level with 50 of 80 scholly players, along with the “loaded schedule” where Pac12 South teams all getting an extra few days break before facing the Trojans – it’s USc against the World! Love it

  2. If the Utes really want this win, and play 85 – 90% like they did UCLA, SUCC will lose. The Utes are a much tougher, hard-nosed team than BC.

Remember SUCCster’s I was the one who predicted Az. State’s QB was more than SUCC’s defense could handle.

  3. If Utah wants this game and plays 85 -90% like it did against UCLA, SUCC will lose. Utah is much tougher than BC.

    • Let’s go Owns, give us a score. (You flamed me for getting it wrong a couple weeks ago!)

      • I believe you said (and I paraphrase here) SUCC’s secondary was better than UCLA’s. That a Bruin troll would say that on a SUCC blog offended my sense of troll behavior.

As it turned out you were pretty much wrong – and you graciously apologized for your unseemly troll faux pas. As I’ve said before, you and I want the same thing: A UCLA FB NC season. I plan to mark that event on my gravestone.

Predicting the score of 50/50 SUCC defeat for me, is a worthless exercise. But since you’ve chucked the glove down – Utah 31 – SUCC 13. Utah’s defense make Sark/SUCC’s game plan irrelevant.

    • The difference is USC’s o-line, despite playing 3 freshmen regularly, is not nearly as embarrassing as UGLY’s.

  4. Wolf, is it the Gold Sheet or the Gooold Sheet? Make up your mind. Once again, my prediction is Wolf will not score on Saturday night.

      • Meanwhile, regarding the game itself, what do you see, Bleuz?

        Here’s what I see:

I think USC’s injuries may come into play—not sure who will be at 90%+ and who will not.

        Looking at FO statistics:

        1. USC’s O and Utah’s D are closely ranked, with USC enjoying a greater advantage in the passing game. But how much of that statistical advantage is explained by FSU and Colorado numbers, not the numbers against equals? To press that passing advantage, USC must make Utah pay for its blitzes. Will that happen?

        2. USC’s D significantly outranks Utah’s O, with Utah’s passing game at a greater disadvantage. But because of injuries, how effective will
Jackson, Bowman and others be? And even if injuries aren’t determinative, how much will USC’s D fade as the game wears on, because
of inadequate substitution and altitude? Plus, there is the running QB problem, and whether each USC defender has learned to strictly carry out his assignment?

To some extent, this game is a test of Sark’s ability on offense. Can he create enough uncertainty in Utah’s D to score TDs, and put real pressure on Utah’s unestablished passing attack? And does he have a plan B, if plan A doesn’t work from the start, or for when Utah adjusts to plan A?

If the playing wounded are pretty functional, and both questions about Sark are answered “yes”, USC should win by 10 or more points.

If the playing wounded are not so functional, or both questions about Sark are answered “no”, USC should lose, and by as much as 10 points.

Or if it’s a mixed bag of functionality and yes/no answers, it will be close, and I tend toward Utah.

        • I am in agreement on all of your points. ..not having Soma blocking at FB and on special teams will hurt. …let’s see how well our TE’s pick up the blitz. …90 plus plays will be brutal for our OL and DL to deal with at this altitude. …Chris Hawkins will be holding on for dear life at CB the entire game…

    • See wolf. Here we have a typical pompous fan. He has no idea what you have done for our university. Keep up the good work.

  5. 24-22 Utah. That D is very tough, as is playing in SLC. Kicking game will decide it.

  6. SC beat Fresno and OSU by a combined 64 points. Utah beat them by a combined 28. Utah beat a bad Michigan team and caught UCLA on a bad day. SC is the better team and will show it. Low scoring, 24-10 SC.

  7. CA 7 OR 7 1st quarter @ OR….’if’ (admittedly a huge if) CA takes down OR the entire Pac-12 north is imploded…..

Take down UT tomorrow and root for WA over AZ St..

  8. Our fancy boys will have no chance to win against Utah. Sark was too busy sweeping shady business under the rug this week, and the preparation for the game was minimally done.

  9. USC 48
    Utah 24
USC defense stops the run, get 3 picks. Special teams score. Allen gets 180 and Kessler 320 yds 3 td’s. Take it to the bank.
