Hawaii Fires Gib Arnold

Former USC basketball assistant Gib Arnold was fired by Hawaii, where he was the head coach the past four seasons.

Hawaii self-reported that  “a men’s basketball coach submitted an altered document that was essential for admissions purposes,” according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

The shock from those who were at USC (like say, a Tim Floyd or his other assistant coaches) is that Arnold got hired there in the first place. And considering Arnold was around when USC got investigated for O.J. Mayo, he should have been extra careful regarding NCAA violations.

  1. another rotten root of the Southern Cal Coaching Tree!!

the Football side, nurtured by Teflon Pete, includes such alums as Todd McNair, Lane Kiffin and Siete Sarkisian!!! slippery characters all!!

and now Floyd Sidious is getting his props with an old school doctored admission application!!!! it’s not quite an envelope stuffed with cash, but still a respectable entry in the trOXan Coaching Hall of Iniquity!!!

  2. The shock from those who were in the USC football program was that Norm Chow ever got hired by Hawaii in the first place. Since the hire, Chow has only reinforced the notion that he was never good head-coaching material as he loses most every game (literally) and Hawaii is now considering dropping its program.

      • Chow was fired after short tenures from every job he had as OC after he left USC: Titans (2 years), ucla (2), Utah (1) – failures at all. It’s almost like he lost his coaching acumen. He interviewed at Stanford for the head job and was so poor that the Cardinal athletic admin got ahold of Carroll and asked him if Chow had blown the interview on purpose because he didn’t want the job.

Undoubtedly, the game started to pass Chow by and he also seemed to have ego conflicts with coaches like he did with Carroll – who forced him out after getting sick and tired of Chow using potential offers from other schools to get raises from Carroll every year.

It was going to be difficult to fail with talent like Carson Palmer, Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart at USC. Chow hasn’t been able to succeed since and has lost all support at Hawaii. It doesn’t help that he has always hated to recruit and is no good at it.

  3. See how deep our shady business goes. It is only a matter of time till it all comes out. New recruits better heed the warning. Go to another University.

  4. John Wooden was in bed with Sam Gilbert, so spare me the hypocrisy.

And SUCLA basketball is so Yesterday– in 40 years since 1974 SUCLA has won one title. That is one as in 1. Quite a dynasty.

Kids today only know Kentucky, Arizona, Duke and a few others, and SUCLA is not on any of their lists.
