USC Morning Buzz: Juju Smith Makes Impact In Many Ways

"JuJu Smith, Davion Orphey"

USC freshman Juju Smith’s daring attitude was responsible for Adoree Jackson’s 100-yard kickoff return against Utah, when he told Jackson to bring the ball deep out of the end zone.

“The way I see it, we needed a game-changer and to get the momentum back,” Smith said. “As a true freshman I’m hard-headed.”

Meanwhile, did you know Smith’s caught 10 passes the past two games but none in the second half of those contests. Full story

  1. this Juju kid is smart. he know INSTINCTIVELY that cozying up to the wolfman is a wise move!!!

many who have diss’d the wolfman are no longer around, and NO ONE who has taken on the wolfman is even in the state of CA anymore!!!

but get on the wolfman’s GOOD side…..and the LA doors start to OPEN!!!

    #NickYoung

    • Name one former USC player who has benefitted from “cozying up to the wolfman”?…….Heck, name a single human being????…..even the campus janitor avoids him the plague……

      • beneficiaries? too many to list in this forum. but suffice it to say, the wolfman either MAKES or BREAKS athletes, coaches or pesky blog antagonists (e.g. Nubsie, Sally, Mono, etc).

the wolfman keeps a LIST…and he CHECKS it TWICE!!!

the Cadre’s always GOT YOUR BACK, wolfman!!!

  2. SC’s got some great, courageous freshmen. I wish the coaching staff showed the same guts as some of these kids.

    • Heck, I wish the coaching staff would even stick with the passing game in the second quarter, if it had worked very well in the first quarter. It boggles the mind.

      • USC’s game plans are like Helter Skelter jigsaw puzzles. All over the lot. No, let’s run. No, let’s pass. No, let’s use WRs as RBs. No, let’s forget about our TE. No, let’s not let CK throw downfield. No. let’s give him a shot.

I’ll give Sark this much credit. He’s trying like hell I believe. He just doesn’t have a feel for what to do when the team needs guidance through tough spots. He doesn’t see the game real well from a coordinator’s standpoint yet. He’s like a gambler at the roulette wheel who could get really hot, or lose his fanny big-time.

He’s got some super star talent, but not enough depth to overcome his own shortcomings, which is why they are so visible now.

        • Agree.

His hot streaks only come against much weaker opponents. Against equals, focus and direction are a typically required, absent “long-shot luck”, such as the opponent missing a high-percentage field goal.

What I find especially annoying is the way he reviews the games. Zero reality…I mean zero.

          • Actually, SC is either the luckiest unlucky or the unluckiest lucky team I’ve seen in their history.

I dislike excuses. When SC was winning constantly under Carroll, Trojan fans always took the stance we simply beat teams, not that opponents ever gave games to us.

In my mind, our losses this year aren’t self-inflicted disasters. Our opponents have just flat out beat us.

For instance, the ASU off-sides kick and Hail Mary were two of the finer executed plays you’ll ever see. ASU was simply better coached and took advantage of us, as did the Utah offense which expertly drilled and carved our suddenly weak defense when the game was on the line. Our players weren’t dead tired. They were outschemed by Utah players who were often wide open or barely challenged.

BC? Be serious. They played us like a fiddle while punching USC in the mouth at the same time.

We’re a 5-3 middle-of-the-road team, and deservedly so. We’re dangerous, but also always vulnerable. We’ve earned our spot, all too often the hard way.

  3. It’s Thursday, so finally Utah is in the rear-view mirror and time to focus on Washington State, located somewhere in eastern Washington.

The Cougs have Leach as a coach and a quarterback addicted to the forward pass. This game is no gimme for the Trojans. Troy had better be prepared to put up 40 points to win it.

  4. Daring attitude is responsible for 100 yard kickoff return…did coaching come into play? It seems weird that on a bad play, it’s bad coaching. But on a good play, it’s a daring attitude from JuJu.
Can you post another theory on how Bryce Dixon is one of the most skilled players on the team? He wasn’t a 5 star recruit. He has 6 catches all year. Conspiracy theories by Wolfie…Bryce Dixon should be an All-American, and Juju’s attitude led to Adoree’s 100 yeard KO return TD, lol. Who listens to this guy?

    • Just because you’re a Sark lover doesn’t mean Seven Win Sark (that’s the name Husky fans gave him long ago) had anything to do with the 100 yd return. Adoree said he ran it out because of JuJu, not Sark, who doesn’t employ a full-time ST coach.

What we do know is that teams’ move through USC like butter at the end of every game and the majority of people who follow SC believe SC’s offensive and defensive play calling is the team’s major problem. Fact.

    • Peter, the commentator repeatedly said that Telfer was wide open. The point is that offensive decisions are too often peculiar and illogical, and don’t lead to lots of points against “equals”. I can’t tell you whether Dixon should have been targeted more, or Telfer, or Smith after the first half. I can tell you that USC had a lot of 3 and outs in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, and largely because of that, averaged worse field position than Utah.

Your conspiracy theory to portray Sark as organized and effective is not going to work. Admittedly, Scott is not rigorous, but neither is he in delusion. There IS a problem, it’s not Scott, but it starts with an “S”.

  5. DARN!!, we almost made it thru a post without a UGLY creeper, but Charline had to blog bomb……oh well, maybe next time.
    #HoorayforCharlieChimein!!

  6. I’d rather like to see that Juju saw a lane forming and that’s why he told Adoree to return the kickoff. Using the reasoning of “we need a game-changer” is a freshman mistake (that luckily paid off).
