Justin Davis Update

"1018_SPT_LDN-L-USC-COLORADO -MB"Every week USC coaches talks about getting more carries for sophomore tailback Justin Davis but it does not always happen. This is important because if Davis does not spell Javorius Allen, then Allen could be worn down near the end of the game.

Davis received a season-low four carries against Utah and also experienced problems fumbling in recent games.

“I wish we were giving (Davis) the ball a little bit more, and that’s as much me as anybody else,” Steve Sarkisian said. “I just think we need to manage that a little better and trust Justin. He’s a good player, a good runner.”

  1. One of these days he will break out and have a good game. He just needs to fight for the time. It is too bad people who left the team couldn’t wait in line too.

      • Actually I was thinking other prima donnas like Anthony Brown who was a running back at one time. Unfortunately these short sighted kids never realize they might be needed

  2. I cringe every time they hand him the ball. He’s coughed it up way too often this season.

  3. I think Davis will be an exceptional USC RB some day but he’s got to cure his fumbling problem. We really need him to come through in a back up role over the next four games as both a receiver out of the backfield and a speedy back who can stretch the LOS – and that doesn’t include putting the ball on the ground against ND and ucla – killer mistakes.

    • Last season he carried the ball 53 times with a team high average of 6.8 yards per carry…and scored 6 TDs, 3rd highest on the team and 2 more than Lee, who had more touches. Oh, and BTW, he had zero turnovers. (Allen and Kessler EACH had 2 turnover fumbles.)
This year he has had 3 turnovers (1 pass, 2 rush) in 81 touches while scoring 3 TDs and gaining 397 yards.
So far he is obviously not quite up to snuff physically, but he is getting there. IF and WHEN he fully arrives, I would wager that he outperforms Allen (just as he did when both were active in 2013).

      • Davis has better speed and quickness. Allen runs a little tougher and has better vision.

Hope you are right. I’d love to see Davis really catch fire, which would add a breakaway aspect to the Trojans that would remind me of Fargas.

        • It is all contingent upon Justin being 100% healthy. I believe that Fargas’s first name was Justin also. Hell of a ballplayer.

          • I’m with you on that comment, Zancudo…Fargas was a downhill runner. with a good team he wouldda been a cabron!!

          • Don’t rag on me for saying, “believe”. My halfheimers has progressed to the point that I have to occasionally qualify some of my comments. You are absolutely correct about me being from ‘Anyway’…but to be more precise, it is West Anyway, where those with joi’e de vivre reside.

  4. Hey Steve Sarkisian I have a question for you …… Have you ever heard of a running back by the name of James Toland ? His jersey is #26 and he’s actually on your roster. BTW Sark, other then constantly putting the blame on yourself for everything, are you paying attention to the talent on your team ?

    • Toland is being treated like a 2nd class citizen. It is inconceivable to me that he is still a walk-on and has not yet been given a ride. Two years from now I expect him to be our #1 TB…but then, what do I know? I was higher than a kite on Isaac…and that went South.

      • IMHO, if he had stuck around, Isaac would have gotten a lot of minutes in 2014. He saw himself behind Allen and Madden, and figured that Davis would be closer to 100%.

However, I don’t think I’ll bet with you on Toland in 2016, but as you say, what do I know? However, in 2014, why not give him some plays?

  5. What the heck does ” if Davis does not spell Javorius Allen” supposed to mean??? Is that some new football terminology? Gives me such a headache reading this, so grateful that the comments are written decently!

      • I’m 20 years out of college, schooled with Rob Johnson and Brad Otton – that’s besides the point, what part did you think I am kidding about, Wolf not making sense, or the that the comments are written decently?
