USC Morning Buzz: Maybe Miley Cyrus Can Explain The Game

Maybe Miley Cyrus was frustrated by all the penalties. Or wanted to see more blitzes. Or was upset Larry Scott made USC play another midweek game.

Anyways, here’s my story on last night’s weird game that saw USC up 31-2 before getting outscored 28-7 the final 32 minutes.

  1. Hmmmmm….. it sounds like Miley’s “gripes” are VERY similar to YOURS, Scottie…….Yes, USC had better clean up their penalties, or else it’s going the be a LONG painful game to watch at the RB…..

    • I think Billy Ray Cyrus should have used a Trojan. It could have spared the world from his “twerking” moron of a daughter.

      • I miss the days when our sideline was littered with celebs, and Miley Baby is nothing, if not a celeb. So, I say more power to her and I hope she’ll continue to encourage us to Fight On! When USC looks like it did in the second half, you’ve got to be grateful for what you get. Go Miley!

      • Easy, Gramps! I think you are joking but remember all she is, is a young girl who jumps around sicking her tongue out, and adults fall to pieces in sections!

I heard the exact same talk about Elvis, the Beatles, the Sexx Pistols and Madonna. Older, easily panicked people who should know better should relax and try twerking, it’s fun!

  2. Poor kid – fame and glory all so fleeting.

Aside from Miley – the game – Hey a victory, admittedly not very pretty one especially that lethargic second half but a solid victory nonetheless.

Both USC and UCLA are rooting for OR St. tomorrow against AZ St.. – UCLA requires only one loss while USC needs two by AZ St.

One thing I see repeatedly in the second half is Sark is playing not to have any injuries to the first string personnel and thus the constant clumsy final 4-6 minutes of these games.

This game (UCLA) is the one that needs to be won far more than Notre Dame two weeks hence. It shall be a solid smash mouth from both sides – can’t wait.

    • I agree… if the announcers thought that the trash talking last night with Cal was bad, just wait until the UCLA game!

      • Cal gas always made it a habit to run their mouth. I remember Desean Jackson damn near starting a riot with the USC student section before the game. Then he got cold cocked the first series of the game.

        • I remember that play…DeSean was loopy for the rest of that game…..those LB Poly Jackrabbits know how to get under your skin….but, I guess if you can back it up, you can mentally disrupt your opponent… not that I’m really a fan of trash talking

    • Yes, appears that playing “safe” is the motto of the second half of games – however, injuries seem to pile up on the other side of the ball – it would be curious to see the stat on that (sc injuries vs other teams) i think they’ve done a good job with conditioning.

  3. Another classy SCCC fan. SCCC may be the only school Miley Ray Cylus could get in to.

    • Your right Dienasty, because the best UGLY could do was Rodney James Alcala, serial killer. He was real good for you wasn’t he?

    • Too smart for ugly though. She didn’t want to be just a pizza delivery guy, gal, straight, gay, blue, purple, or whatever you have over there.

Morons = ucla +ruin fans on estorgen

  4. People this is what we are going to get for possibly the next two years. There are coaches who coach their players to step on the the throat of their opponents and keep it there for the entire game and some who don’t. Sark falls into the category of the latter. I think he is simply too nice and doesn’t want to embarrass the opponent. If you go back the last Rose Bowl Game that USC played in after the 2008 season, when Sark was the offensive coordinator, he did the same thing. USC was destroying Penn St. 31-7 at halftime. Sark let off the gas in the second half and USC on 38-24, but it shouldn’t have been that close. Pat Haden is the same way. Let’s all be nice and not embarrass anyone. This is more than likely the mindset that Haden has when it comes to the NCAA.
An example of this mindset was when Haden was with CBS as an analyst and he was commenting on Miami’s shellacking of Notre Dame 58-7 in Gerry Faust’s last game as ND’s coach. He and Ara Parsegian were leading the calls for Jimmy Johnson’s head because he “ran up the score on poor, little, Notre Dame.” In closing, USC needs a tough minded SOB that wants to do nothing more than kick the hell out of everyone.

    • Parseghian said that? The same who crushed USC in 1966 51 – 0!
The worst defeat in school history

    • Oops! I almost forgot. USC had a coach to fit that bill. Coach O!. But one Patrick C. Haden didn’t think he fit the image of a USC head coach. But Sark sure does.

      • FUNNY HOW EVERYONE WANTS TO BLAME THE COACHES!
The coaches are not the ones RACKING up penalties and managing to leave 3 touchdowns on the field..

    • It is clear that the foot is being let off the gas for one reason or another, but it appears to be on the Defensive side of the ball – so the only real questions are; are they tired? do they not know how to Prevent? It’s one thing to let off the gas on the Offense, and not score a gazillion points to “not embarrass” anybody, but the pattern is more with the Defense caving in.

I appreciate your clear, positive thoughts – very refreshing around here amongst the filth and muck of Ruin trolls, and the host himself on most occassions.

    • I don’t believe this team is being held back out of some desire to spare opponents humiliation. All of Sark’s teams lack that something extra —call it joy for the game. If you watch closely, you’ll see a lot of solid play and play calling…..until crunch time. I don’t know exactly how Sark goes about fixing this but I offer two observations. One, when he gets asked questions about 2nd half drop offs, maybe it would help if he reflected on the possibility of the correctness of the questioner’s premise rather than getting ultra huffy —blinking his eyes, gritting his teeth and bringing back unwanted memories of Faye Dunaway’s performance in Network; Two, maybe he needs to hear what a trainer said to a brilliant, but overly cautious, local boxer who always seemed to lose the last couple of rounds of every bout, “Yes, it’s a boxing match but it’s also a FIGHT, ok? FIGHT to the finish.”
      Fight on!

  5. I don’t believe Miley was as interested in the game as she was about how she would be received by the coliseum multitudes.

Something that was taken from this Cal game is how SC came our throwing first, running second. This is the style they should have assumed the entire year.

But Cal shutting down the running game has me worried about SUCLA and Neuter Dame. Both will be favored over SC (the ASU game notwithstanding), and rightfully so.

  6. Wolf keep up the great work. Miley at the game is about the most interesting thing we have seen all season. Too bad Miley was not playing that night. Maybe the stands would have been full.

  7. I have seen many SC games where SC gets up early, but the game feels in doubt until the end. This was not one of those games.

That said, SC has not played a complete game this year. The first half of the season I chalked that up to youth, Young players are inconsistent, particularity as they get tired in the second half. I hope that is the issue.

  8. Hey, Scottie… there’s a glaring omission in your “story”…and that would be the play of the young OL…..they are really starting to come together and they gave Kessler ALL DAY to throw the ball last night….and they haven’t seemed to miss a beat even with the loss of LT Chad Wheeler……why no love for the Big Uglies?

    • If that is true – and it shows it is on the video feed – it will be of a huge gain looking forward – not just the next two weeks but the next two years ahead.

To establish the run USC has to go to their strength – 1st the air then the ground.

  9. Giving the team a week off, poor coaching, no halftime adjustments, a DC who hasn’t a clue, it all adds up to what you saw last night.

Seven Win Sark hit his mark, anything above that is a bonus. Who thinks he beats an average bRUIN team or an overrated Domer squad ?

    • I am not forgiving the poor coaching and the lack of making halftime adjustments, but UCLA and ND are both above average, Top 20 teams……stop downplaying and disrespecting our upcoming opponents….you’re smarter than that….I hope….. and their first half explosion would probably not have happened if the team wasn’t given the week off to rest and recharge their batteries… you DID watch the game last night, didn’t you?

    • Since f ucla barely survived this crummy Cal team I expect us to beat f ucla in similar fashion- blow them out early and then cruise the victory as the f uclans exit the Rose Bowl in the 3rd quarter. In the 4th quarter there will only be Cardinal in both end zones.

  10. Steve Sarkisian like most of Pete Carroll’s USC coaching staff, are not head coaching material, they are individuals that were in the right place at the right time that had opportunity’s presented to them. Look at all the chances Lane Kiffin had to lead a team, but failed every single time. But guess what ? I still hear the media pumping him up for another gig. Pat Haden along with many other Athletic directors, have no idea what to look for in a head football coach. Many of them go for the flavor of the month, where as several other ones look for leadership skills, football background and knowledge. Most Coaches will only be as good as the players on their roster, but most will believe otherwise. Doug Nussmeier who was Alabama’s offensive coordinator prior to Kiffin, was considered the best assistant coach available at the end of last season. But look what he’s done so far at the University of Michigan , absolutely NOTHING except for cashing in on a million dollar salary, and will probably be fired with that staff in the next couple of weeks. So my point is, special situations don’t make a good coach, good coaches create and develop special situations. Can you hear me, Mr. HADEN!!!!
