That’s rivalry weekend – MS / MS St., Auburn / AL, / OH St. / MI, FL / FL St., OR / OR St., AZ St. / AZ etc.. This is where, even numbered years, ucla is irrelevant in fact they have (wisely) scheduled the Stanford game for the day before – Friday the 28th Nov..
USC vs. Notre Dame – this is the most famous and endearing intersectional game played annually in all of college football – it’s mano on mano – NYC/CHI (huge fan base) vs. LA – two most successful programs with more NC’s and Heisman’s than any other two team match-up.
Advertising revenues are huge for this game – uniforms are iconic and the legends grow as the loser cries into the night and the winner knows the year is complete.

Personally not a fan of playing Stanford on a Friday night after the SC game. It is a shorter week and to play that soon after an emotional game against your cross-town rival is very difficult.
It should be on Saturday against a South division team. 2 years ago when we played Stanford, it was a meaningless game as both teams had already wrapped up the division. Luckily that didn’t happen this year. But it is bad scheduling in my mind.
yes it is questionable scheduling, you still must play the game. In 12 days you likely will be 8 – 4 and somewhere near the bottom of the PAC12 South.

Yeah you’re right! I remember that! In fact I thought Larry Scott was adamant in not letting it happen again i.e. a No vs. a So. Pac-12 match-up on the last weekend of the regular schedule.
The reason you’;re playing Friday is because all the attention will be at the Coliseum – the 2006 season comes to mind – USC took down ND only to lose, the following week in that major upset to UCLA and DeWayne Walker’s brilliant defense.
That was Walker’s 1st year at UCLA – he had also a stint w. PC at USC – went on to NM St. and now well he’s back in the pros

If Notre Dame didn’t lose to Northwestern I would have increased USC’s odds to surprise them and beat the Irish. But now that their season is down the tubes and their only hope is a repeat as Pinstripe Bowl champions, they can focus all their attention on the USC game. No 1st year head coach at SC has Eeeeeee-eeee-ver! defeated Notre Dame. This year will be no different. USC wins easily.
But you have to remember that Brian Kelly can out coach Steve Sarkisian with his eyes closed, so nothing is a given in this game.
