Josh Shaw To Play Against UCLA

It sure sounds like cornerback Josh Shaw could have a big role in the game although Steve Sarkisian said he has not decided yet.

“It depends how he looks on game day,” Sarkisian said. “He’ll have some role in the game.”

Shaw is likely to be a cornerback/nickel back, which is something the Trojans want as finding a third corner to complement Adoree Jackson and Kevon Seymour has been a season-long issue.

  1. If your a real usc fan then ride with us! Stop putting our players down! C hawk, Felix, Seymore, Shaw and any other player i forgot that has bein getting smashed on by his own fan base! Bad enough wolf lets these ruins on here to clown us n then we pile on! Ride or die baby! FTFO!!!!!!!!!

  2. Expect anything different? In all honesty… Did you truly expect any other outcome to this entire saga?

  3. I seriously doubt Shaw will have a “big role” unless one of the starting CBs gets injured. Chris “All Hands On” Hawkins is probably the most impacted by Shaw’s return.

    • Here you go again. Sticking to your story. Ridiculous.

Sometimes it’s best to remain silent, Helen!

        • Shaw will play most of the game and will be effective. Unfortunately, for SC fans, Sark and Wilcox are clueless, much like you, so the team doesn’t stand a chance.

  4. AS usual Wolfworld, you grace us with insight…..Your post from
the 18th says Shaw needed at safety, not cornerback…..And keeping
with your astute football insight, your inside knowledge has him as MUCH needed 3rd cornerback…….which as you say has been a season long issue!!…..not a 2 day issue from your post on the 18th.
Fact is we have some very good DB’s ,but we are thin.thin on experience and depth.Where he’s needed will be a coaching decision, not a beat writers….LET THE GAME BEGIN

  5. Speaking of changes, the “Residents Are Rattled by New Website” advertisement that I always see on this blog to the right of the comments section has finally been updated! Where once there was a redhead with an apprehensive look on her face, they have photo-shopped onto her body the head of a sly, sultry brunette! Wolf, this would be a perfect topic for today’s poll!

  6. There was never a question about whether he would play, only whether he would wear a life jacket or not.

  7. Scott’s comment: he could have a “big” role in the game

Supported by Sark’s quote: he will have “some” role in the game

It’s that sort of unfounded cometary we have come to expect from you, Scotty. Keep it up!

  8. As SC fans, was it ever a doubt to you that Shaw would be reinstated right before the two biggest games of the season? I’m just curious of your thoughts. Also, even though he’ll obviously be a little rusty, a Josh Shaw with rust is still a force to be reckoned with.

    • I really think SC is so closely minding their P’s and Q’s that if the LAPD investigation had not concluded before the end of the season, he would have sat out the entire season.

Was a call placed to maybe push that investigation along? It wouldn’t surprise me to hear that one was…

    • I honestly thought he was done at SC. I forsee him getting burned on a critical play Saturday (assuming he plays). Hard enough to play game 1 when everybody else is playing game 11. Add the intensity of a rivalry game and he’d have to be Deon Sanders to not be two steps behind everybody else.

    • I skip a lot of the posts on this blog, particular the ones by those who have disques administrator access, but I always read your posts, you’re a class act. I have a mixed Trojan/Bruin family and you would be welcome. I do disagree with Saul to the extent that I foresee Josh having a great game with a “pick six” and a fumble recovery as a little part of the rebalancing of the universe. Enjoy the wedding, we’ll miss you at the game.

      • Same with me, HT. wife’s side is all SC (Dad, bro, uncles, aunts)–she was the lone UCLA grad. My fam is all UCLA. Makes for interesting Thanksgivings, doesn’t it? Have fun at the game. I already nervous to watch it…

        • Encinitas ursa aka Not far from Oceanside/Vista – I agree totally per ‘…already nervous to watch it.’ as much pressure is allegedly on Sark it is even more on Mora – also a very damning article on the web per Notre Dame’s lack of recruiting depth esp. on defense – really fouled up there.

What college football is all about and only about is the ability to recruit talent – Sark is xlnt at that Mora knows that and this is the 1 year Mora has to garner a national vibe for UCLA.

BTW Cade McKnown is running his mouth – that game down in Miami Nov. 1998 – a week after crushing USC, is still sticking in his craw

          • McNown was a great college QB, but has not been know for stellar intelligence or maturity. A Todd Marinovich sort of situation. This game is not going be 35-14–I believe it will be decided in the 4th, and by less than a TD.

          • Otis, if Sark, the dough boy, was such a great recruiter how come his five year U-Dub record was the chump-like 35 and 29 or .547 WP.

There’s a good reason Otis, Sark is known as “Seven Win Sark,” and a better reason why I refer to you as Otis. Bottoms up.

    • Actually, if SC had any real pull they would have had him cleared of any criminal conduct, and have had him playing in the ASU and Utah games where he could have made a difference.

    • If the LAPD still had his case open, Shaw would still be dangling in the wind. Are you suggesting the LAPD wanted Shaw eligible for the ucla and ND games? If so, you’re not the reasonable poster I thought you were.

      • No, I don’t think strings were pulled, but was curious if SC people such as yourself thought the were.

        • I’m surprised Shaw will see the field and figured if he did, it would have started at least a month ago, after a normal investigation of a simple dispute which never really saw any prosecution witnesses line up.

Shaw being on the team makes no difference any way at this stage unless he can figure out how to single-handedly stop Hundley, which he failed miserably at last year.

          • My thought was that his athleticism could be utilized in special situations. Even though he is of course not in game shape, he is a real talent that could contribute in what should be a close, classic crosstown rivalry game.

          • I’ve never thought Shaw was that good and I’ve seen him beaten badly many times. I always thought his leadership was his best quality, but he’ll never be the same leader with these team-mates again. He’s pretty compromised, but I’d say he’s capable of laying some wood.

If he makes some big plays, more power too him. But if the Trojans are relying on Shaw to turn this game into a victory, they don’t have a chance IMO. He’s not a game changer. Just a fill-in guy who might not make some guys happy by taking their game time away.

      • Unsurprisingly, you’re misrepresenting Encinitas’s point.

It’s no accident that one of your better players happens to be available just before your two biggest losses of the year.

      • A reasonable person just might conclude that Josh Shaw made his own bed and had to sleep in it.

The LAPD didn’t run, didn’t make up a “rescue yarn,” didn’t rudely lie to Sark and SUCC athletic dept., didn’t let the SUCC FB program down, and lastly and most importantly, prove himself unreliable, dishonest and lacking honor.

        • You act like the LAPD is a bunch of saints. Actually, they make up plenty of serious yarns and there’s enough bad boy cops in their ranks to fill more than a few jails and there’s all kinds of dead victims out there classified as unsolved (actually unsolveable) cases.

Shaw made his bed and he slept in it. Good for him. I couldn’t care less if he plays for the Trojans again. Hopefully he’s learned some lessons and might earn a few NFL paychecks, though I have my doubts he’s good enough.

          • Hardly Jack. I’m the last person to polarize I’m saying JS created his own problems period.

          • Not sure why you’re going on and on about this. Who said Shaw didn’t single-handedly cause all of his own problems? Nobody. There has never been any question about this since the incident occurred. Never.

He did his time and missed most the season. What’s your beef, aside from the fact you’re a typical Troll?

  9. With Josh Shaw and Adoree Jackson at the corners, even with Shaw and Seymour at the corners, IMO, USC would still be undefeated in conference play. IF Josh Shaw had stood his ground and remained in the apartment to meet with the police, in all likelihood, he would have walked out of his girlfriend’s apartment a “Free Man”. Today, USC has two crucial conference losses and needs an victory Saturday and another ASU loss to win the PAC-12 SD. Nuts !!

      • Seriously, being in the Final Four is pointless if they’re gonna get embarrassed by Alabama, like the Pac-12 champ ultimately will.

  10. Just curious, does anybody recall how well Shaw performed at cornerback against Hundley in last year’s game? While admittedly an improvement over Seymour and Hawkins, is he really going to make that much of a difference based on his performance laster year?
