  1. The late John McKay from his grave predicts an SC victory and the
late SUCLA coach Tommy Prothro prays that SUCLA wins.

Who cares about predictions. Play the darn thing out, and we will then analyze it after the fact.

    • Yeah, SUCC resurrects Brad Otton, another former mediocre/2nd rate SUCC QB to fail the NFL, from the dusty, smelly cellars of Hubris barn and stables.

      • You’re right, it’s embarrassing for us Trojans to see all of the success those bRuin QB’s are having in the NFL.

        • fotv, name one former SUCC QB to start a SuperBowl – win or lose? Here’s a hint, it’s not Sean Salisbury.

          • Here’s what’s finny, FOTV: UCLA has one former QB In the NFL. Ever heard of McLeod Bethel-Thompson? Don’t worry, most Bruin fans won’t remember him either. He was a fourth stringer who was thrust into the ND game in ’07 because of injuries to Olson, etc. he later transferred to SacSt and now plays for the Miami Dolphins. Ask me the same question next year….

  2. UCLA 28-24

If we are going to dig into the vault of rivalry QBs, I’d love to hear from John Barnes, the unlikely hero of the 1992 game, who directed a 21-point fourth quarter rally that gave the Bruins a 38-37 victory. From walk-on fifth stringer to hero in one day….you gotta love L.A.

    • I remember that game and Barnes – as I recall he played for the Broncos in the NFL – kid was lights out that day a la Norman Dow in 1966.

The 1992 game was Larry Smith’s denouement – that game sealed his and Mike McGee’s (USC AD) doom because of the loss at Anaheim/Angel Stadium against Fresno St. in a rout 7 – 24….Smith was sacked with three years left on his contract after his nuanced mocking of Troy “…Names and logos don’t mean anything. You don’t beat someone just because of your name and logo.”

      • I remember it well. That was the infamous “parity” speech, if I’m not mistaken. My folks’ place in La Canada-Flintridge was about three blocks from Smith’s house. Nice guy, used to walk his dog a lot. Felt kinda bad for him. Remember seeing the movers packing him up…

        • He actually suggested – for even numbered years – that the UCLA and Notre Dame games not be played back-to-back due to the pressure. He also, sadly was very bitter after he was sacked and went on to coach @ MO. I recall his wife alluded to his time and experience at USC as part of the reason for his ‘demise’.
