  1. Sark loves to talk. Don’t get him going now or he might give us a 60 second explanation of why his team came out literally sleeping to begin the second half. As far as his horrible record against good teams goes, he’d probably say, “I’m not sure I’d want anyone to be a Trojan who thinks it’s a big deal that against top 25 teams I have a horrendous record. That’s the type of guy who might just choose a school because they just killed their rival on the field.”

    • Six seasons as HC, and no one ever advised him that his insecure anxieties were leading to remarkably silly explanations and pronouncements. I guess that implies that he has no real friends, either.

What I think would be fascinating is a video of Sark’s job interview with Haden, followed by the ensuing deliberation among Haden, McKay, and whomever. It would make a worthwhile case study at the business school.

  2. Yes, His record is bad, season has been very unsettling …I would like to see the next Carol like,or young great to be in there now……,BUT all I hear is Wolf whineing month after month about how bad it is.COME UP WITH A IDEA THAT WORKS .And that goes for every body else.GIVE WORKABLE SOLUTIONS !!!!Enough with complaining, Come up with change that can be done .

      • It’s much easier for the Sunshine Pumpers to blame a sportswriter than facing the truth that Pat Haden made a terrible mistake last December.

    • That Peter is SARK’s job – the SUCC Head Football Coach.

Wolf’s job is to highlight SUCC FB Good, Bad, Ugly and Abominable. If you don’t like what Wolf reports why read his blog.

    • OK.

      Haden should resign.

      Jackson shouldn’t replace him.

Pay up for an experienced hands-on sports executive.

      Replace Sark now, or…

instruct Sark to hire a strong OC, and to get busy with quality control on his coaches, and with talking to all the players about what their problems and challenges are, and how the staff can help them. And to hire one consultant for a tutorial in game and clock management and another for how to talk to the press.

He should be told he has one year to prove himself–wins will matter, but no more so than the players looking prepared and focused, the opponents looking off-balance and uncomfortable because of USC’s exploitative unpredictability, the team not being a penalty leader, etc.

        • Peter, all of that could fail. The point is to keep experimenting toward incremental improvement. We are on the second coach who doesn’t make that his main focus.

And that, I think, is the underlying reason you feel “unsettled.” Many USC alumni got good educations. Watching the repetitive errors and hearing the non-explanations feel unsettling.

  3. How many more pathetic seasons with Sark does USC have to endure? 2? 1? This coaching staff is absolutely clueless when it comes to game managing and scheming. Awful. USC deserves better and can afford the best. USC executive leadership has settled for mediocrity. Shame.

  4. Bottom line on all of this is UCLA has better players and we got out coached. Scotty go ask Mora if he would trade rosters blowing your theory of USC has the most talent in Pac 12.
    Receivers- very good
    QB-average
    TE-average
    OL-below average
    RB-good
    DB-good
    SF-below average
    LB-below average
    DL-average
Only good news that most of good talent on this team are freshman and give USC something to build on.

      • 42 in Nation in sacks, 26 in run defense, 112 in pass defense. One guy does not make a Dline. Without him this Dline is way below average. Plus add most good teams have 7 or 8 guys they can rotate we have about 5 they should even be on the field.

    • I question whether UCLA has generally better players. What they have is roughly equivalent players (as the recent recruiting rankings confirm).

And that is all a team needs to beat Sark. He gets out-coached; it’s that simple.

The fact that it wasn’t even competitive is a function of the injury to the LT, which seems to have savaged the USC rushing attack, even against weaker teams, let alone a good team with a good DL and scheme. Plus, once the UCLA lead hit critical mass, it was just tee-off-on-Kessler time.

The only discouraging factor is that, along with those younger players, the coach is coming back. Bummer!

  5. No point in beating a dead horse (the Rhodes Scholar), we need to convince Mr. Davis that Pat and Sark are the answer to the ills besetting the Oakland Raiders! I do wish Pat luck in selling those fancy seats with the pricy surcharge to see a 6 and 6 2015 season.

  6. 2-3 this year at USC. However, Utah is no longer ranked… Notre dame is not ranked anymore, either…

  7. Better talent is Southern Cal for sure….Better heart and coaching is UCLA for sure.

Better Talent by position:8 to 1 SC

    QB: Hundley UCLA
    RB: Buck Allen SC
    WR: Agholor SC
    OL: Max Turek SC
    DL: Williams SC
    LB: Cravens SC
    DB: Adoree Jackson SC
    PT: Albarado SC
    K: Hadari SC

Better Heart by Position: 9-0 UCLA

    QB: Hundley UCLA
    RB:Perkins UCLA
    WR: Payton UCLA
    OL: Mcdermit UCLA
    DL: Odigidizua UCLA
    LB: Kendricks UCLA
    DB: Adams UCLA
    PT: Mangel UCLA
    K: Fairbrun UCLA

Coaching is not even close UCLA over SC…Better talent but no heart and poorly coached SC had no chance at the game…not even a gift pick 6 that should have energized the SC team coughed up the lead like the sorry team that they are. It will be more ugly when UCLA starts signing better talent. Lucien- South, the top DE recruit committed to UCLA…oh oh sounds like pain for Southern Cal.

    • Actually Turek got his rear kicked on multiple occasions by UCLA. RB is a toss up. Cravens made very few plays and let Hundley run for a TD as Cravens went for the handoff fake. Fairbrun looked better as a kicker.

        • Amazingly, she doesn’t even understand that she implied that.

Helen, button it. People will associate you with a USC education, and the university ranking will go the way of the football team ranking.

    • Your smoking crack with this list. How are you judging talent? Do you realize that we had 3 freshman Oline playing with Turek? Perkins has more yards and better YPC than Allen. Kendricks will play in NFL and Cravens is playing out of position because we are so thin at LB. Myles Jack is better than both of them. Love how you include kickers but leave out safety position. Real top notch analysis.

      • Yo timmy…just admit you guys stink! We are all tired of excuses…quit with the excuses…Who’s fault is it that you’re playing 3 freshmen linemen…..Who’s idea was it to recruit all those receiver types….Why did all those declare early last year. You boneheads live in a pile of $h!t built by So So Cal guys. Stop the bitching and accept you are the ones responsible for the current mess. Do us a favor….keep on recruiting those dummies with the dreaded character issues!
        Clowns from a Clown School!

        • That is my point dip$h!t. UCLA has a better team but your to ignorant to understand. Get a life and start a UCLA blog that anybody cares about.

    • This is one of the funniest things I’ve seen on this blog in a long, long time. But it’s good to show just how delusional Trogans really are. Cravens over EK or Jack at LB? Adoree, the guy who got pushed 10 yards back on every bubble screen thrown his way, over ANY of UCLA’s DBs? Pac 12 rushing leader Perkins behind Allen? OL, well, just LOL. And who on SC’s team compared with Owa, Vanderdoes and big Ellis? The truth is that AT BEST, the teams are evenly matched talent wise. But you’re not wrong when talking about heart.

  8. So Scottie – of those 20 games, how many times was Sark’s team ranked in the Top 25 also? How many times were they ranked higher than their opponent? Just because Sark lost to a better team doesn’t make him any lesser of a coach. Your Wolfian logic is showing again.

    • Try this logic: if you have lost 75% of your games to top 25 teams, how likely is it that you ranked in the top 25 for more than a week or two?

You don’t seem to get it, Helen. He has never demonstrated excellence as a coach. He very rarely beats teams that are rough equals, let alone clearly better teams.

Have you forgotten the ASU and Utah games? Did you find either of those teams to be “really good?”

Every pundit in L.A. is unimpressed by Sark. It’s not just Scott.

  9. Hey Wolfie, here’s a recent history lesson. Alabama was sanctioned with scholarship reductions for 3 years starting in 2002. Guess what happened? From 2003 to 2007 the mighty Tide loss a total of 30 games. This was under the Mike Shula regime. Wow

However there was one blip. The 2005 season Bama went 10-2. Sounds familiar to what Kiffy did in 2011- Sc went 10-2

It took Bama about 5 to 6 years to re-establish their winning ways after the scholarship reductions in 2002.

The Rise of Dixie. It started in 2007 when Saban arrived however they went 7-6. After that they started to roll, only losing 9 games in 6 seasons under the General.

So out of fairness. Sark deserves a chance. Sc fans it took Bama 5/6 years. Sc was penalized in 2010, so 2015/2016 should be our recovery. The other thing if you compare Bama’s record during their down period with Usc, Usc is doing pretty good.

    Are we impatient?

  10. As long as Steve Sarkisian has the administration believing all of his loses are from scholarships limitations the longer he will be the Trojan head coach. He’s a con man just like Paul Hackett and Lane Kiffin, and until USC hires a real Athletic director the buffoonery will continue.

  11. Sark is not a USC quality coach. Anyone who saw his face near the end of the game (angst-ridden, as if the wrestling team captain was manhandling his prom date right in front of him) knows that he is in WAY over his head.
