A Chicken And Egg Dilemma

KESSLER.UCLA

Is USC’s offense too conservative? Yes. But why? Is it because Steve Sarkisian will not take chances or because he feels Cody Kessler is not capable of running a wide-open offense?

Remember Sarkisian coached Jake Locker and Keith Price at Washington. And I wrote back in the spring the playbook was pared down because of the lack of a running quarterback. After watching the UCLA game, does that justify keeping the game plan bland? And how does it improve next season?

  1. My observation of the offense;the line just can’t get any push;it barely pass blocks well;when you brag about not having your backs tackled in the backfield anymore, and that is the positive, that is not SC having any running game, and why the q/b can’t wait for receivers to get open.the ‘O’ line is still young and had injuries, although at the end of the season seems like there would be a little more progress. When SC plays less physical teams, they win;physical teams,it has been usually a loss;ND is a physical team, hope they let lose the warriors.

    • Thanks for straightening out Scottie. For him, the coaches are the root of all problems and can’t understand this is a very young team. Someone on the opponent’s DL breaks through our OL on every single play.

  2. Cody will do just fine next year –the o-line will have matured and Tre Madden will be healthy.

      • That’s the million dollar question, R.T.! When all is said and done, Sark prefers having a staff he’s comfortable with to a staff that pushes him and the team—that little piece of vanity (or insecurity) will cost him in big games. That being said, his offense can work just fine WITHOUT a running quarterback if he has a tailback who can catch (Tre Madden), a tight end who can block and catch (Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick) and a fullback that can block and run (unknown).

  3. I have heard that Cody has been told to run if necessary, but I think his first thought goes to the pass.

    • En contraire…a year hence we shall be at near 100% strength and, I can assure you truly the back end of a horse, that you and your Rex Hudler look-a-like will be shrieking into the night …whyyyyyyyyyy!!!!

Because you’re left wing demokratiche arbeit partei–SEIU and GLBT…oh Freddie not there…that’s better….yeah where Garth Brooks says the spot is…..

      • Garth…the/his/her name says it all…..”….now to report the weather…(whispering) …stop it….not now you animal….ohhh …noooo….let’s meet at Griffs on Melrose…whats that? It’s closed? Why? Because what? STD? What the heck is that? I’ve got it?…. but you don’t?….oh noooo…ok I’ll stop the world and melt with you and …hmmm. whomever at ‘The Vault’ on Ivar…..imagine the chaos and the ‘resolution”…everyone will be attired in baby blue bruin ….hmmmm ….baby blue….Badfinger…..bruin….Stanford…..uh oh…Stanford….what if we choke? What then?…..woodie the peckerhead….let’s sing the homage to the gutless coward…ready? “Oh come let us adore him…for he is all we have…for he was the con job of the 20th century…woodie the peckerhead!”

        • You seemed to be obsessed with homosexual topics, locations, etc. Are you trying to come out, rusoviet?

It’s really ok of you do. We’ll still accept you.

          • Otis the Latent? Who knew. No wonder he’s unbalanced. Hiding the truth Otis does crazy thing to your psyche. Slip out of your “…dirty, filthy basement…”

  4. I cannot wait to watch the much more aggressive Wolfie offense next year when you are calling the shots Scotty

  5. Ted mentioned that Farmer and Browne are thinking of transferring together. Wolf surmises that Coach Sark’s feels Kessler is incapable of running a “wide-open” offense. IMHO, USC’s last quality QB coach was Norm Chow. What followed Coach Chow has been pathetic and therefore unproductive. Following 4-8 Hawaii’s final game Saturday, Coach Chow, who turns 68 in May, may welcome an invitation from Coach Sark to be USC’s QB coach, or better said “QB Coach Extraordinaire”;. If Coach Chow can confirm that Coach Helton will call all plays AND that the Trojans offense will return to the traditional Coach McKay, Coach Robinson, Coach Carroll’s HUDDLE SCHEME, I bet CNC would catch the next plane to the Land of Troy to lead Mr. Kessler and Mr. Browne into the Promised Land.

      • All great choices —but I think we should get used to the idea that it’s not gonna happen.

  6. Kessler is having a better season than Locker and Price ever had. Those two were sacked just as much as Kessler has. And how many games did Sarkisian win with Price or Locker?

    • Poor Snoop sounded a little like someone who had just lost a couple hundred thousand on the game.

  7. Suck is a notorious qb killer , he messed up Sanchez in 2008 , he should have won a Heisman. Locker once went 4-24 with 4 picks in a game under Suck ! Lewis sucked and Kessler can only pad stats ( Sucks specialty) vs garbage teams.
Some O guru this idiot is

  8. peter, try reading my blog word for word. I HAVE COACH CHOW TAKING OVER AS QB COACH, NOT OC !! peter, you must be unaware that the Titans, UCLA, and Hawaii did not have traditional DROP BACK QBs who had TALENT. You must agree that Kessler needs to be schooled as does Browne. Chow has flown untold zillions of miles in airoplanes during his tenure at Hawaii. We can feel fairly certain that at age 68, Coach CHOW would prefer less stress on the job, taking part in something that he EXCELS AT…..TURNING KESSLERS AND BROWNES INTO HEISMAN TROPHY QBS !!!
