USC Morning Buzz: Did The Offense Become Too Predictable?

Is USC’s offense too predictable? It seemed heading into the UCLA game that Nelson Agholor got nearly every pass and he entered that contest with nearly twice as many receptions as anyone else.
“You can potentially fall into the trap of where that’s where the ball should go (too often),” Steve Sarkisian said after the UCLA loss.
But Cody Kessler seemed to not fully agree.
“We’ve had games where nine or 10 people touched the ball so I don’t know about that,” Kessler said. “ A lot of people have touched the ball and made plays for us.”

  1. And they say Wolf doesn’t read the comments. I have been saying the offense is so predictable it can easily be defended.

    • He didn’t need to read this blog to see that, he HAS to attend the games, Helen Keller could see that this offense is predictable.

    • Someone with no past ties to USC. And the coach should be a defensive minded coach who HAS to hire a top notch OC.

    • we’re stuck with Sark for 2 more years. Even when haden quits the next AD will have to stick with Sark. its better if we just accept medicrity for a few years….we can start rebuilding and have some hope when the Sark era is over

  2. The lack of varying the snap count was predictable. The lack of screens and draws to take the pressure off and make blitzing hurt was predictable. The lack of halftime adjustments was predictable. The bend over defense was predictable. Sark’s poor coaching was predictable.

  3. That’s a bit disingenuous on Kessler ‘ s part. The defensive game plan was to take away Agholor, the usual first read, giving the d-line time to get home.

  4. Sark brought this all on himself. His team looked absolutely horrible against ucla and now all he’s got are his “predictable” taglines to get him through interviews.

His offense and play calling were horrid at the Rose Bowl. The yardage doesn’t lie.

Hard to believe this guy is in his sixth year of being a HC. Seems like year 1 to me, except he already goes by the nickname Seven Win Sark, so you know he’s been around for awhile.

  5. Let’ see what occurs tomorrow rather than continue to hammer Sark.
Notre Dame HC Kelly is under the same pressure and, unlike Sark, he doesn’t have the luxury of citing scholarships denied as the reason for the abysmal record the past 5 games (1-4) – his problems are a series of bad choices for scholarship – he has no depth.

USC is a 7 point pick – let’s see if we cover.

  6. Question I never see: When does Sark kick the tires on Max Browne? I don’t see Cody ever winning a game.

  7. To quote Bucket ( which I hate to do), but You Dummies, Agholor gets most of the passes this year like Lee last year and Woods the year before that. When you have an NFL receiver, he will get the most balls, cause he’s better than everybody else!

    • That’s true on one level, but FB is the ultimate team sport. You need at least 21 teammates to win a team victory.

  8. yes, calling certain plays at certain times. Like NEVER passing from the pistol. Every time it is a run, not even a play action pass. Just an example of predictability.
