USC Morning Buzz: Where Was Notre Dame Performance Earlier?

"1129_SPT_LDN-L-USC-NOTREDAME-HG"USC played perhaps its best game of the season Saturday against Notre Dame. And if you wondered why the Trojans did not play that way throughout the season, you were not alone.
“Guys have said why haven’t we played like this all season?” defensive end Leonard Williams said. “Losing to UCLA the way we did was kind of a bummer. We played a lot of close games this year.”

Was it just the anger of the UCLA performance that motivated USC? Or was Notre Dame just that bad?

  1. Well a counter is the very same query could be asked of the ucla / Stanford game.

Real contenders do not give up – they finish the task they complete the campaign. USC didn’t give up and ucla shouldn’t have but they did

      • i say we let Otis have the empty cans and bottles from Cadre HQ….but the old rummy has to sing and do a dance first. (chortle)

    • this is an SC blog. Why do you keep looking to UCLA losses to feel better?

But really, SC gave up mid-way through the 2nd quarter against UCLA. That’s all you need to know about LA football.

    • “USC didn’t give up” The look on Sark’s face was priceless specifically on that 4th and 2 goal line stand by the mighty Bruins, if you look closely you see him say “why.. .why”

  2. Well Notre Dame was down to at least their fourth string on defense across the board… Most likely the reason.

  3. Good luck predicting the collective psyche of a bunch of 18- to 22-year-olds on any 3-hour period on a fall Saturday. About as simple as explaining SC’s flacid performance vs UCLA and the Bruin’s passionless performance vs Stanford. As Twain said, “Youth is wasted on the young.”

    • Which is what makes college football so fun, the ebb and flow of emotions, quarter by quarter, week to week. The UCLA game was more of the Bruins with an extra bit of avenging 50-0 than the Trojans quitting or not up for the game. ND was a team with a decimated defense and a bad QB, last game, at home and getting pounded the week before.

  4. Do they realize how many injuries Notre Dame had on the defensive side of the ball ? It was more that, then USC showing up to pound the Irish into the ground. The Trojans think they were playing the same squad that played a close game against Florida St., but they actually got a team with the same talent level as Fresno St, let’s keep it real guys.

  5. I am a true USC fan… but this ND team was not that competitive and it showed. ND takes no greater pleasure than beating USC and vice-versa. However, ND is a mess right now and it was easy for the trojans to beat them down like it did. The PAC-12 on the other hand is the 2nd strongest football conference in college football today and no one escaped undefeated. Most have 3 or more losses. A PAC-12 team has to be really good not to lose 2/3 games in conference play or lucky as heck. This is not a fair question to ask Scott Wolf…
