Nice speech. As most people thrown into the public spectrum, they are good with their pretty speeches
Now, let’s get down to brass tactics:

Oh forget it.
What Kiffin did was confirm what Sabin knew – he is an excellent assistant coach and even more – one who showed it again after being sacked twice and quit from three consecutive HC jobs (OAK NFL & TN, USC).
Even more telling unlike Charlie Weis he (Kiffin) was able to resurrect his skill set very quickly – hopefully he is now convinced this is where he belongs – an excellent assistant and nothing more.
Good for Lane. But it’s not like he has a tough life, NCs, millionaire, beautiful wife. Yeah, it’s tough being Kiff.
Life is hard, period. I’m sure that working for Saban is challenging. For LK, maybe he can learn about what an HC needs to do. Or, maybe he’ll realize that he doesn’t want to make all those changes in himself that are needed.
I think Saban will be a more effective teacher for Kiffin than Carroll was (no knock on Carroll at all) because Kiffin’s personality is a lot more like Saban’s. Under Saban he can learn how to effectively HC in a way that is more suited to who he is.
I think that Kiffin’s shortcomings may have made him more teachable. What’s the saying?: “When the student is ready, the teacher arrives.” Something to that effect.
SEC is perfect for Lane, that’s where he belongs. Deflated balls and jersey bait & switch ain’t no thang down thar.
My favorite Kiffin quote is still fresh in my memory from his tenure at USC “I think it’s in the best interest of USC for me to call the plays”
I love that one.
Didn’t you love it also in 2011 when you won the Pac-12 South with a 5-4 record after USC laughed you down 50-0. Did the little gutties get a trophy for that? Sure hope so. It was perfect that Bridesmaid U would actually take credit for that. You actually still brag about it. Hah. Good one, little gutty.
Yawn.
what a meaningless life you must lead. Old man hanging around a competitors football blog and commenting “yawn.” Get a life old timer.
Still a big fan. I’m glad he’s having fun this year.
I thought this was the USC blog. Why are there any imbeciles surprised to re-realize that Lane Kiffin is a talented Offensive Coordinator? Do you know nothing about his career? He couldn’t win at USC because you can’t win with half a football team. He was the best head coach Oakland or Tennessee has EVER had, and by EVER, I mean the past 10 years. He’ll get a good HC job after winning another national championship this season, and I won’t be surprised when he succeeds, again.
He’s not a good HC, because he’s too insular. Don’t kid yourself.
After having found out Sark isn’t a miracle worker every Trojan was hoping for, I’m leaning toward thinking Kiffin wasn’t as bad for SC as once thought. Still, I don’t think he’s head coaching material for a major collegiate program like SC, but I’ve got no reason not to wish him luck in the future.
Scotty taking pokes at Kiffin is classic. You have a 3rd string writer who’s claim to fame is flaming the rival school fan base making peanuts trying to bring down somebody who has accomplished more in the last week then Scotty has done in his career. Really makes for the perfect marriage of Scotty and the UCLA trolls who flock to this site. Both are bitter and just wish they could have a taste of the good life.
He is the Perez Hilton of sports writing… Scott “The Diva” Wolf..
Perez Hilton has 5 million following on twitter and get 8 million page views. Scotty has 11k followers on twitter which is about the same as a popular high school cheerleader. Scotty could not hold Perez Hiltons jock.
Wolf is entertainment sports news..
Honestly,I believe he will be a head coach again in the next few years;Oakland is used as some so called ‘proof’ of his inability…give me a break…then Tennessee? they actually did improve, but they fired a great coach, and how much success since ? still waiting…SC embarrassed any decent person aligned with this historic program,in the way they fired Kiffin…he did not deserve that…So now, he honestly makes this statement admitting he was a risque for Saban to hire…not for Saban,he is A MAN…not a mouse, like Bear Bryant he did what he thought was right, and he was…get over it…I defended Kiffin when it wasn’t cool…he is not perfect, may have some attributes we do not all like, but he is a football coach that knows how to get it done,in time.He is a decent man with a family doing a good job…good for him.
I’ve got no issue with Kiffin now that he’s not SC’s coach. For a minute there (2011) it seemed that he was maturing before our eyes (team was playing great, players improving, Kiffin was saying all the right things, less sour faces, etc…), and then it all came crashing down in 2012 and he lost the team and program. In retrospect, it has become clearer that many of SC’s problems were/are deeper than Kiffin (though Kiffen was a BIG part of the equation). With all that said, you at least have to admit that the guy has an ability to fail upward like nobody’s business. He may be a decent guy etc… (not for me to say because I don’t know the man) but rarely do you find anyone (no matter how talented) given as many quality opportunities as LK has been given.
Perfectly said. “I’ve got no issue with Kiffin now that he’s not SC’s coach.”
More power to him now. His play-calling with ‘Bama seems excellent. At SC, it was overly predicable and stale. Not nearly as productive. He left the program very weak on the OL. Was ineffective in his dealings with the media, which obviously annoyed him. Truth is, he wasn’t ready for the USC job and it showed. Caused some real friction on his staff to say the least. Had big-time respect problems.
He’s probably matured some and I’m sure he’ll end up as a HC again, probably at a big school. Personally, I don’t see him as a leader or a guy who people want to follow. But that’s how Lane views himself, most definitely.
Put the remedial sociopath anywhere but Bama with their talent and weak schedule and he is back being the idiot we all know he is …. Wow Michigan , Florida , and Nebraska were sure impressed !!!
The fact he learns from his mistakes, which is necessary to succeed, is evidence he will attain some good head coaching job;he has a lot of talent as an offensive coach;he not only inherited a team that was struggling on both lines, but losing players to ncaa version of free agency, scholarship limitations no school ever faced before, but add negativity from day one from all sides;maybe you excel in these situations;no other coach wanted the job,it was a program in early stages of struggling before sanctions handed down;2009 was a tough season;he did in some ways become too predictable,he has admitted that,Sark admits this too…people can learn from mistakes;nothing he did pleased people,he had critics even the 10-2 year;as I stated ,I am ashamed the school fired him the way they did;obviously he built the team up,it finished strong, and it still is;we disagree…so be it.
I don’t think we will be able to know if he’s learned from his mistakes until we see him as a HC again.
Why feel sorry for Lane? He made a killing financially at USC. He had a lot of critics because he invited controversy and had a way of acting superior while wearing his sunglasses on camera. Just plain dumb and immature.
He got the job he wanted very badly and blew off Tennessee at a horrible time for their program. Many people think his willingness to leave Tennessee the way he did (totally low rent, remember his disgraceful mini press-conference) showed elements of his character that led to his downfall. When he was fired, ASU was running uncontested through his secondary like nobodies business and he’d already been punched out by Pola.
Who knows how he’d look now if he were the OC at Northwestern or Colorado? As I said, more power to him. But he failed at USC in large part because the job was simply too big for him. And he shouldn’t be judged solely because he’s with Saban now. Everybody wins with Saban, not just Lane.
When and where did I state I feel sorry for him? I don’t believe people are valued just by money;some will do anything for money;I disagree with so many of your values,it would take me forever to discuss…just say we are totally different,I respect it is your privilege to be who you are….at least we share being SC fans…thanks…
You went on and on and on about how Lane inherited a struggling team, scholarship limitations, taking criticisms from all sides, how he couldn’t please anybody and how USC should be ashamed for firing Kiffin as they did, Sounds to me like you felt sorry for him. If not, why the poor Lane campaign? He got what he deserved. He wanted his dream job and he dumped on Tennessee only to find out that what goes around, comes around.
FYI, the team only finished strong because he was canned mid-season and it was coached by other men. He was a public relations nightmare for USC and he did a crappy job which is why he was fired in a parking lot and told to stay off the team bus. Not everyone invites such a parting of the ways.
Someone else in this thread called him a “remedial sociopath.” Some of his assistant coaches would agree.
I never said people are valued just by money. Not sure where you picked up on that.
You’re right. Nothing similar about you and I.
Fortunately, Kiffin is out of USC’s hair. Too bad you’re ashamed of USC. Conversely, I’m proud of the school for getting rid of the toxic Lane Kiffin before he could do any more harm.

wolfman, truth be told, he shouldda thanked YOU, for standing up to him and HH and FORCING him to be humble and apologize so obsequiously to you and the fans for his unjust attempt to ban you from practice.
if it weren’t for that mistake, which hastened his downfall at Southern Cal by 2 yrs at least, he would not be in the great situation he’s in now, with a team that actually has some Crystal in their trophy case.

Nobody said Lane Kiffin wasn’t a good coach, they said he has no leadership skills to lead a program, which he doesn’t. He’s with a program that has more talent then any other team in college football, and the leadership comes from their head coach. So where has Kiffin proven he has changed ?
