TCU coach Gary Patteron won the Eddie Robinson Award today, which is the Football Writers Assn. of America’s Coach of the Year award. Patterson is now a two-time winner, just the eighth coach to win it twice. USC coach John McKay was also a two-time winner.
Pete Carroll never won the award but was a finalist three times.

How great is an award when Charlie Weis is a winner..
However.. Pete Carroll did win both Conference and National Championships.. So i think I am ok with PC not winning a Coach of the Year award..
And how many coaches have won a college National Championship and an NFL championship?
Pete Carroll is in rare company – in the history of the NFL/NCAA there are just two others – Jimmy Johnston – Miami-FL and DAL and Barry Switzer – OK and DAL.
Not an easy task which is why Holtz ‘quit the NYJ in 1976. McKay got the Bucs to the 1979 NFC CG only to lose to the Rams. Sabin imploded w. the Dolphins.
No NFL Super Bowl winning coach has ever returned to college ranks and won there – main reason is their inability to ‘trade’ players.
I wish I had your power of recall
