Former Coach Bo Pelini Audio Tape Big News In Nebraska

Former Nebraska coach Bo Pelini met with his players after getting fired and the Omaha World-Herald obtained a tape of the talk.

“Hey, if (A.D. Shawn Eichorst) isn’t gonna do his job, if he doesn’t have the balls to go out there and support me, to support these kids, support this program, do me a favor and get rid of me,” Pelini said.

“There were agendas and that goes all the way over to the chancellor’s office. And between the A.D. and the chancellor and they want their own guy in here, go ahead. Good luck to ya.”

UPDATED: Nebraska responded that Pelini’s comments “only reaffirms the decision that he should no longer be a leader of young men at Nebraska.”

  1. wolfman, you KNOW i love you like a brother, but if it was me, i wouldda posted a picture of the eternally consternated-looking Pelini along with this post.

that aside, one of the great post-termination speeches in years, sweeeet scooop wolfman!

    • As the narrator in the movie “A Christmas Story” said of his father, “He worked in profanity the way other artists might work in oils or clay. It was his true medium; a master.”

And: “In the heat of battle my father wove a tapestry of obscenities that
as far as we know is still hanging in space over Lake Michigan.”

      • That is funny!

Pelini is a fool then again did anyone ever see a smile on his face (save one after winning a football game)?

Just a nasty contentious fool. Look for the same 3 – 4 yrs. hence when the school mgmt. and AD at Youngstown St. give him the heave ho.

        • The crazy part is that apparently this was not some loud angry out-of-control tirade. He just calmly called his former AD a c–t in front of a bunch of college kids.

          • Yes – the Omaha Herald (as the rest of the media) has the complete audio with text on their website released yesterday.

What is amazing is his ignorance or plain indifference to what his future will be going forward – after Youngstown St. all that’s left is the radio shock jock circuit i.e. Jack Morris would be a great partner.

            “The Mess From The Midwest”

          • I suppose he feels betrayed that his remarks were leaked to the media (unless he did it himself for some misguided reason), but that seems like just one more sign of his own foolishness.

          • No what is telling is the lack of real anger when he chooses to use cuss words that aren’t often heard – no ‘mutha….’ rather ‘c*n&’ and said in a very controlled emotionless way i.e. this is how this goofball actually thinks about others and has no qualms using the language he chose to in front of 18-20 yr. old males.

I’d say the recording speaks volumes of what the real assessment by his peers of players that Pelini flat out has no idea of how much contempt he is held in – those words he chose truly truly telling.

  2. Pelini and Joe Paterno were close Italian buddies. Funny, because Joe struck me as being mild-mannered whereas Pelini never heard the word ‘manners.’

Reading the alleged transcript, Pelini loves the cliche “at the end of the day,” which has been overused for about a decade now

And to put down his AD like that, without ever really getting to know the guy, is classless. Do you know how important football is at Nebraska, a state with no professional team?– You think they’d hire an AD who did not care about the football team?– Please

Nebraska was the team of the 90s
P.S. SC and Alabama were the teams of the 60s
SC was the team of the 70s
Miami was the team of the 80s
SC was the team of the 2000s

    • Correction Jersey, SUCC was the sanctioned FB team of the 2000’s

And, doan’t forget Jersey, Josh Shaw is SUCC’s 2010’s quintessential FB Hero.

    • John, that reference to Italians may be misconstrued–I know you didn’t mean it that way.

I don’t know which is more worrisome:

      (1) Pelini’s lack of self-control;

      (2) his indifference to offering unconstructive criticism of university leadership to current student athletes; or

      (3) his utter stupidity in failing to foresee that it might be taped and released.

I’m confident that these young players will be in much better hands with Mike Riley. This guy has a serious emotional or neurological disorder. He needs treatment, not a next job.

      • Gosh Benny, you’re so well adjusted and self-righteous. You must know everything about Nebraska’s FB program and personally interact with Coach Pelini.

Dare we ask a simple question? – has Pelini ever been accused of being a racist (Anthony Brown style) in his nine year Cornhusker HC tenure?

  3. Latest skinny is that Youngstown St. ‘may’ be looking at rescinding the offer to Pelini based on the language he used.

  4. OMG!! the Little Lord Fauntleroys on this blog are OFFENDED by Pelini’s potty mouth!!

Of course when the agin’ Cajun cussed like a bayou bum, it was “colorful”.
