USC Morning Buzz: Award Games

Last night’s football banquet offered awards for the “Perimeter Player of the year.” That’s something to tell the grandchildren about one day, how you were the top perimeter player. Is that a sign of progress? Is it too hard to give an award a good name or does it need to sound like Justin Wilcox coined it?

Last night also confirmed that USC will not give an award for UCLA player of the game unless the Trojans win. Ditto for Notre Dame player of the game. It was a long tradition to give awards for both games win or lose until Pete Carroll decided not to give an award for the UCLA game after losing in 2005.

  1. Before the SUCLA vermin start in, it was actually the 2006 game that SC lost.

SC beat SUCLA 7 straight times from 1999 to 2005
Then SC beat SUCLA 5 straight times from 2007 to 2011

O.K., o.k., SUCLA did get lucky in several games and won 8 times from 1991 to 1998 after Marinovich beat them in a sensational game in 1990.

    • It’s ok John, Wolfie never lets the facts get in the way of one of his half-ass posts. I.E. Nelson Aguilar and Cody Allen.

    • UCLA got lucky for a record eight consecutive wins? Sure Jersey, you obviously need a self confidence boost.

How many consecutive wins has the UCLA men’s track team have now vs the SUCC men’s track team?

      • And what did 8 wins lead to…. National Championships – Nope. Heismans…Rosebowls…..Negatory.

UCLA football should change it’s slogan to UCLA – At least we have long streaks against USC once in a while. Everything else…. not so much.

        • SC’s obsession with UCLA’s success > UCLA’s concern about a sinking SC program with no national relevance

          • LOL!! You dudes invented that stuff by coming on the USC board and spreading that drivel. Why don’t you stay on the UGLY boards. Why do you come here? Since your here answer the question – what has UGLY ever won of significance? Thank you

          • Thanking a UCLA fan for pointing out the irrelevance of a mid-tier Pac-12 SC program = thoughtful recognition of the superior program crosstown

          • Superior!?!?!?!?!?!? HAHAHAhAhAhAHAAHAHAHAHAAHA!!
Let us know when you win something of significance. After your guys beat our guys (your guys definitely deserved the win), you peed your bed against stanford. So much for your dream season.

    • Past 25 years = tied crosstown series (12-12-1).
USC’s delusion of dominance = Some politicians’ belief that Global Warming is a myth

      • Typical UGLY – always changing the bar. You guys worry about USC so much you crap your tent when it comes to rose bowls, NC’s and just about everything else.

By your reasoning, we can also say that Oregon and Stanford “own” UGLY right??

      • How’s the Fed investigation at SUCC coming along. Seems SUCC might be under reporting its crime stats. For instance, as a private Univ., SUCC has the option to reduce a Felony crime on campus to misdemeanor and under investigated said crime. The SUCC private campus police are beholden to SUCC not the city or county of LA.

        • Don’t know what rankings you saw but UCLA sits nice at 12th in the world while Clown College well I had to stop scrolling down, not to mention they sit behind U of San Diego in the Cali rankings.. .

    • Show me a sore loser and I’ll sign him up as my coach. The whole hug-gate came from Mora making a pissy comment to D-coordinator after touchdown. Big game Jimmy has been known to kick a few trash cans.

      #fixitwithahug

    • I agree that he didn’t like to lose and he was a sore loser, but “sore pussycat”? That was a low blow.

  2. Once again Scotty, you are at the forefront of new information. I was unaware that my Bruins beat SC in 2005. You are truly a fine journalist that does impeccable research and fact checking.

    • Most likely to get blown off the line by a stronger UCLA receiver = Adoree Jackson
Most likely to get beaten repeatedly UCLA’s receivers = Leon McQuay

  3. Chances of Mora leaving UCLA in the next 3 years = chances of USC beating UCLA in the next 3 years.

    • The never win the big game award goes to ….. UCLA for generations of never making the big one.

Well, when your coach says “we are the bridesmaids..” guess what? your the bridesmaids.
