Who Replaces Whoever Turns Pro After Holiday Bowl?

Who does USC have to replace any underclassmen who make themselves available for the NFL draft? Here’s my story on the subject.

Excerpt: “Not to be overlooked is the risk involved for the players. Two years ago, cornerback Nickell Robey turned pro early and was undrafted. But Robey signed with the Buffalo Bills and plays regularly. Last year, safety Dion Bailey went undrafted and was cut twice by the Seattle Seahawks before being resigned to their practice squad this week.”

    • Not sure I learned anything from that article. Also how did Sanchez do a poor job of hiding his intentions of leaving? Did Scotty forget the the stunned press conference with Carroll basically telling Mark it was bad decision?

        • Too little experience at USC doesn’t really account for Sanchez’s NFL career. It started out not half bad, and then deteriorated. I don’t watch his games, so I can’t offer analysis.

          • Sanchez can be a starter with good players around him but that’s it. He went too high in the draft and people thought he was gonna be better than he was after the jets went to the Afc championship game two years in a row.

  1. In my opinion. Before they declared for the draft, I thought Grimble, Bailey, and Uko were not ready for the nfl. I wished the best for them and I still do. As much as I want him back Leonard W should definitely leave for the pros. He’s an NFL starter in week 1. I say Buck goes in the later rounds and we should be ok next year with some good running backs coming in the recruiting class. Nelson is a toss up. We don’t need him as much as some might believe, but at the same time he could use one more year in college to become a pro receiver. Let’s say they do leave. My guess is hoping a healthy Kenny Bigalow steps up at deftackle. And maybe Rasheem Green. At running back I think Justin Davis is ready for 20+ carries and a breakout season. At WR we are ok. I think Farmer & Juju take the outside next year and Mitchell holds down the inside. I truly hope everyone’s decision works out for them. Fight On!!!

    • IMHO, Allen’s departure WILL cause problems (yet he will probably leave), given the injury history of the returning veterans. Allen always played. Period.

Plus, Williams is too way too good not to be missed a lot, even though Bigelow, Green, and others have significant talent. It’s a little like saying that Matt Kalil was replaceable by Walker and Wheeler. Yeah, there were starters, but the OL has never been quite the same.

Agholor’s exit will be more easily accommodated, not because he’s not excellent, but because of the three you mention, AND Rogers AND Harris, AND the part-time Jackson, AND two JC transfers with slightly different skill sets, AND Dixon, who at this point, plays like a WR/TE hybrid, AND a couple of other interesting 2015 freshmen. If the OL improves, there WILL be TD passes.

  2. it doesn’t matter. We have talent waiting to fill the spot of whoever chooses to leave. Farmer will take Agholor’s place well …or juju smith..kenny bigelow can fill in on the D line..etc…what matters is we will still have dumb and dumber…err Sark and Wilcox..so we aren’t going anywhere.

    • and your guy is down the road accomplishing all that he could at ucla. No Heisman, No natty, no conference championship, no all American. No nothing. another ucla loser.

        • Point is, little gutties like to choke and always settle for less. Bridesmaid U – rah! Hundley, your so-called savior, didn’t win jack except for beating USC on probation. Big whoop. It was just another huge choke job by ucla this year. Everybody but you knows it.
