What would have happened if the 49ers and Jim Harbaugh fell out a year ago instead of this season? Would USC have been his destination? Or if Mike Garrett had been smart enough to try and hire him in 2010 instead of Lane Kiffin?
At the very least, USC would have been very successful and Harbaugh probably would be a causing one controversy after another. That’s something neither Garrett nor Pat Haden wanted.

Mr. Jenkins would have sooner spent a decade drinking Shiner Bock at the Sun Bowl with Lane Kiffin OR Paul Hackett than see Harbaugh put his “stamp” on USC football. That said, we wish him success in Ann Arbor, will relish watching him get under Urban Meyer’s skin, and can only hope the Trojans have a chance to face his Wolverines in the Rose Bowl before the inevitable flame-out.
