A New Nickname?

Should we call him Steve “total success” Sarkisian after last night’s comment that USC’s season was a “total success.”

  1. Well you probably should stop calling him Seven Win Sark or Siete, since that is totally inappropriate now.

  2. If that’s the best you can come up with it looks like you shot your wad with the Caesar moniker, Scott…

  3. Should call him “3-Quarters Sark”.
Check out the above photo. He missed his calling as a baseball ump.

  4. Total Success is a good one. Especially after he starts winning the Pac 12 year after year, perennial playoffs, a few Nat Champs.

  5. The most difficult position groups in football for underclassmen to play are along the offensive line and in the secondary.

USC rotated 4 freshmen and two sophomores with no playing time prior to this season along the offensive line. Five freshmen (Jackson, Plattenburn, Lockett, the penalty magnet Hawkens and Lopes,a WALK-ON) and two sophomores (McQuay and Cravens) have played in the secondary throughput the season.

The only impact players on the D Line were Williams and Tavai, and the linebacker play was atrocious all season. Guys like Pelon, Felix, Temple, Sarao, and Bowman have no business seeing extensive playing time on D yet all did during the bowl game.

The only consistent skill players all season were Agholor and Allen with guys like Smith, Dixon, and Davis showing flashes but also disappearing sometimes.

There were epic fourth quarter breakdowns but maybe that had to do with the fact that the defense was exhausted due to horrible depth because of the sanctions.

That sounds like a 9-4 team at best to me and if not for two fluke plays, the Hail Mary vs. ASU and the backwards pass turned touchdown vs. Utah, this team would’ve been 10-2!

It was a complete success especially in regards to recruiting since talented incoming freshman know they can come in and make an impact right away.

As someone already mentioned, Washington tried hard to keep Wilcox and he has been looked at as a head coach candidate for multiple teams. Guys who can’t coach don’t garner that kind of attention. Let Sark and Wilcox have more time to work with this young team and let’s see what they can do with a full recruiting class before we start calling for their heads.

    • EXACTLY – now all we gotta do is convince all the lame trolls that exist on this blog that think they know it all to see this obvious reality (like Wolfbag himself)

  6. Coach Sark is putting lipstick on the pig. Success at USC has long been defined as beating ucla, beating Notre Dame, and winning the Rose bowl. One out of three for a USC Football Head Coach means you’ll be fired on the LAX tarmac in less than three years.

    • Unless it was at the peak of sanctions, then a decent person would give him a mulligan (go look up how sanctions affected the team by reading the post by FightOnForever above)

  7. Anyone with that hoodie can’t be deemed a “total success”, but Scottie, come now, you’re going to hold a guy to that kind of quick post-game judgment – arguably a slip of the tongue – when your blog entries are riddled with such “slips”? Again, nobody would call a season with a loss to UCLA a total success, so we can nullify that statement rather easily. Was it a good start? Is the program looking up? Inarguably.

    • Sark’s comment was not a slip – it’s why Sark is a good recruiter. It was meant to signal USC is back and fighting for a championship. Now watch Sark close out the recruiting class while fools like Scottie are chasing their tails.

      • Don’t forget Oregon and Washington come back on the schedule next year, along with motivated Stanford and Notre Dame teams! Plus, another loss to the Bruins is a given!

Luckily you have Arkansas St and Idaho (lol) on the schedule or seven wins would be impossible!

        Total Success On!

      • Mistaking irrational exuuberance with Jedi mind tricks to curry favor with recruits = an inability to recognize your coach’s level of mediocrity

  8. Can’t give him a nickname that you already own Scotty. That would be too much pressure for anyone. We’ll just call him, Sark9

  9. Foolish remarks Wolf truly foolish. This is your sole reporting job – USC – admittedly any ‘cachet’ at University Park is long gone. While that may not be relevant today in 2014/15 the day shall come when you shall call it a day and when that day comes, and it shall, and a dangerous trap door opens up below you, the sole contacts you have will be those you mocked.

Ask Joe McDonnell how is career has been since McDonnell-Douglas went off the air back in 2005 – what goes around come around.

  10. caption : “there is no way you are getting me out of here. I know I suck as a coach and just wasted another season of USC football losing to UCLA and Utah and ASU and BC…but no way baby! you are stuck with me!”

    • And all those freshman and sophomores didn’t have anything to do with those 4 losses? All their football knowledge and skill were held back by incompetent coaches. PC you are delusional!

  11. 9-4 for USC = “Total Success”
9-3 for UCLA = Total Disappointment
Expectation Level for UCLA football > Expectation Level for mediocre SC

  12. while 90% of trOXans and all the media consider the Holiday Bowl game a disaster for Southern Cal, ol’ Sark busted out laughing and said “we like to keep it interesting”!!!!

oh, Mercy Nurse!!! Shades of Larry Smith!!

LOVING how Sark is already on the Unwanted List, while Mora was on the Michigan short list before Hargough cried uncle and quit the NFL!!!!

    #UCLAownsLA

  13. Look 9-4 is not exactly what we had in mind but it is a good start. Sark won the most games by a first year coach at SC since John Robinson in 1976. I remember people were unhappy with Pete Carroll after he went 6-6 his first season.

The foundation is in place to improve on this season. We have a lot of young players returning and with one year under their belts should be better.

Sark and his coaches learned a lot from this season and I expect them to improve as well.

USC will be better next season and make all you trolls crap your pants.

    FIGHT ON!

  14. Well the range of opinions certainly leaves no room for any other possibilities;the only real logical move next? bring on next year;this season was so volatile in swings of actual wins, losses or might have been,it seems any summation is based on emotion,or a pre conceived position one is unable to revise;the only game I recall where SC was out of it altogether was, unfortunately, ucla…it is like ,well never mind;maybe they will save our posts and replay them after next season, which I think will be a lot tougher than this year, but so will the team….I hope.

  15. Scottie: didn’t you forecast 7 wins for the Trojans this year? So 9 wins would be defined as a total success.
