Former USC Coach Ed Orgeron Will Make $450,000 At LSU

Ed Orgeron will make $450,000 to be LSU’s defensive line coach according to the Baton Rouge Advocate. That’s pretty good money. But it is less than half of what he made at USC. Orgeron was paid more than $1 million last season for a similar job.

This is why I sometimes point to coaching at USC more than I might at another school. Because USC pays coaches more money than other schools. Remember Monte Kiffin’s $1.5 million salary.

  1. It wasn’t last season. Wrong.
    Similar job? Wrong again.

Inside USC, where facts are not checked, and proofreading is not allowed.

  2. What are the rules/contingency plans for schools that receive more than 25 commitments on signing day? USC has a possibility of landing commitments from 26 or 27 players
on Feb. 4, plus one blue-shirt from last year. Are they forced to withdraw offers to players who committed?

It is complicated, but there are options.

USC can blue-shirt recruits or grey-shirt
    them.

    A blue-shirt is a non-recruited player who can
be awarded a scholarship on the first day of practice, with the scholarship counting toward next year’s class (in this case, blue-shirts will count against 2016).

A non-recruited player is one who did not make an official visit or play host to coaches for an in-home visit.

Among the list of 15 verbally committed players, there are a couple who could qualify as blue-shirt recruits.

A grey-shirt is a player who delays enrollment until the second semester of the school year.

USC can sign 19 players on Feb. 4 because five
recruits – quarterback Ricky Town, linebacker Cameron Smith, receiver Isaac Whitney and offensive linemen Chuma Edoga and Roy Hemsley – have already enrolled. Kicker Matt Boermeester was on the team this season and counted against 2015 as a blue-shirt recruit.

  3. Scott thanks for your consistency. You are the worst journalist in creation. Also, $450K goes a long way in Louisiana. Lot of jumbalya.(sp?)

  4. How does USC’s pay compare to Stanford, the other private school in Calif.? That would be apples to apples comparison. Factor in the enormous cost of living and taxes in Calif. compared to the South and even Oregon. Congrats Ed, making big money, working where one of your boys goes to school and close to home.

  5. Considering the taxes and property costs, Ed may come out ahead. Still, has any other programmed paid as much and received as little. Is Haden ever going to be held accountable?

  6. As I stated on an earlier post, USC has to over pay their assistant football coaches moving forward, because the top assistant coaches don’t think highly of Steve Sakisian. This according to an article in espn the magazine, that ran shortly after Sarkisian was hired. And it appears to be true, because offensive line coach Tim Drevno was a personal friend of Sarks, and he jumped ship with the first offer. Lowly Oregon State has a better coaching staff then USC, go figure ?
