USC Morning Buzz: The Great Caesar Super Bowl Conspiracy

A lot of chatter emerged following the Super Bowl about whether Pete Carroll passed on second-and-goal because he wanted Russell Wilson to be the Super Bowl MVP instead of Marshawn Lynch. There was a report that even an unnamed Seahawk felt that way here.

“He wants to delegate credit through Russell Wilson,” Petros Papadakis says in the above video. “When I was working very closely with Pete at USC, I noticed and especially over the years it grew, he was obsessed with the dispersement of credit.”

Papadakis mentions how Carroll wanted Lane Kiffin and Steve Sarkisian to get credit at USC. And I would add how he did not want Norm Chow to get credit. In that sense, Chow was the Marshawn Lynch of the staff.

Think back to 2009. Carroll wanted Matt Barkley to be the true freshman phenom. He made him the starter even when some thought it was too soon. And then he always seemed to blame others for Barkley’s interceptions.

Anyways, it’s just a theory.

    • i don’t know, El Rey, this theory has a lot of traction in Seattle and i mean in the locker room. people feel that, more than “sharing credit” more accurately, Caesar just dint want Lynch to be the hero!! he’s not quite a “franchise guey” like Wilson is.

  3. Wow, what a circus. Pete makes one really bad call and now he’s Stalin or some Machiavellian villain in a Bond movie. Next, it’ll be he intentionally threw the game with the co-op of Wilson so he could cash in on his new book, “Winning Through Pain and MVP Manipulation”.

    Lots of people like agenda-driven Wolfie and Petros now cashing in here. Comical.

I could go on with college AAs, first rounders, #1s, overall bowls, conf champs, all-conf players, winning %, et al. It get’s boring it’s so radically lopsided. Oh that’s right.         • Actually, USC usually has its way with Ohio St as you know. We’ve beat the Bucks 7 straight times and lead the series 13-9. I was at the famous ’75 game in the Rose Bowl when Haden/McKay teamed up to beat you 18-17. What a game.

          Now that the crooked NCAA is off our back, we can sign 25 a year like everyone else. Hope to meet you soon in the playoffs. This year might be a little early for us Trojans, but I’m sure you’ll be there. Good luck.

  6. The only other theory more stupid than this one was the Ugly Bucket’s analysis of how he would have run Lynch 3 times into the line with 26 seconds remaining and 1 time out.

    And Bucket wonders why he has never been accused of being
    real smart.

    • Lynch’s first run was with one minute left, instead of nonchalantly letting the clock run down 30 seconds they could have hurried up and run it 3 times if necessary although it was obvious the Pats were a beaten team after the 4 yard run on first down. Pet’s call resurrected the dead Pats.

  9. Good morning everyone. I hope all my friends are doing well. I am herebti let you know that I will be taking a short vacation to relax my spirit and mind. I will be gone for a few days. I am thinking of going to a place where it will be quiet and where not a lot will be going on for the next few days. I have chosen to spend my time in Westwood, California. I have been told it is very quiet and desolate this time of year. A perfect get away if you ask me.

  13. So in 25 seconds they had to have the correct players on the field, the decision about who would be MVP, send in the play, line up and run it. PLLLLLLEASE give me a break. Great from a humor standpoint, but someone is actually going to take this as being serious.

  14. Petros is a Pete Carroll hater. This is a guy that made fun of Carroll’s personality, gave him no credit for resurrecting USC football, not credit for winning 2 national championships, and showed his hate by only focusing on sanctions.
    Petros sure was quiet the last year in attacking Pete since the Seahawks won Super Bowl 48.
    Maybe Petros is upset because after all those times he attacked Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush on the radio Pete came down hard on him.
    How ridiculous is Petros? If the conspiracy was so true, why did run the ball on the previous play?

    Petros should just stick to shilling for the Dodgers and anything that pays his salary.

    • Agreed – he’s just like his father – a foolish know-it-all. On top of that just how long will Troy keep Papadakis in any official capacity based on his (Papadakis) envious venom.

      As stated just when is Papadakis going to regale all about the idiocy or pratfalls of Mora or Mattingly? He’s still entertaining but he is getting closer and closer to the Joe McDonnell region – today one could hear Matt Money Smith decidedly distancing himself from Papadakis’ rants as even Papadakis tried to re-wind what he’d claim was known to others.

The difference between pete carroll, and many other jerks in this world is that carroll has a great gift of charisma. His charisma masks all his evil qualities in so many people’s eyes. Petros isn’t a fool for charisma.

      • Funny how PC came in 1st in a poll of NFL players regarding which coach they would most like to play for. He has a reputation for empowering his players, and scheming around their strengths. He’s old enough that his reputation probably has a significant basis in fact.

        But he’s a football coach, not a clergyman, and not an evil spirit.

  15. I knew there had to be a reason why basketball U across town would spend any money towards their football program. Jim Mora put a gun to the administration’s head in a contract clause that if groundbreaking for a new facility doesn’t begin in 2015, he can leave for another gig and not pay any penalty or buyout money. Even Mora knows what he is up against at taxpayer tech!

  16. Good call, bad execution. Wilson threw the ball out in front the WR where it could be picked off. If he hit the WR in the numbers it would have been a TD and Carroll would have been called a genius.
