The Rev. Theodore Hesburgh, who served 35 years as president of the University of Notre Dame, died late Thursday night. He was 97. Hesburgh was a national figure and he gave the commencement address at USC in 1968. Also receiving honorary degrees that day were a couple other legends, actor John Wayne and film director George Cukor.
The speech took place the day after Robert Kennedy was assassinated at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. Perhaps Hesburgh mentioned it in his speech.
Porky, when are you going to post the new players numbers? Whitney is #15. Hmmm, not #8. You said George left because he had to compete with Issac for the #8. YOU LAIR.
Next great Trojan # will be #70 Chuma Edoga. I don’t know if he’ll end up at tackle or guard. But I believe he’s talented enough to leave a big mark when it’s all said and done. And whatever # Iman Marshall wears. He’s gonna be a nightmare against receivers.
I did not know the name Father Hesburgh until I just read his biography. What a man. And he and others like him are my inspiration because he was at his office at Notre Dame every day until the last week of his life, at 97 years old
Now, that is my idea of a man.
Father Hesburgh was Mr. Jenkins’ kind of priest … known to enjoy a good cigar and a good scotch.
I’m sure Pete will say something inspiring at his ceremony like “OH NO!” That’ my favorite quote of his.
May he be in the Lord’s Hands always and forever. What and inspiration.
