Blast From The Past

TREPAGNIERNext year will be the 15th anniversary of USC’s Elite Eight team but hey, why not remember a bit now with the NCAA Tournament dominating this weekend. The Trojans upset Boston College, 74-71, in Uniondale, N.Y. on March 18, 2001. The hero was reserve point guard Robert Hutchinson, who made five free throws in the final 1:17 to seal the victory. Jeff Trepagnier (above) had 18 points and David Bluthenthal 20.

Then came the heartwarming day after when Coach Henry Bibby told the team he would show them New York City and took them to dinner at Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC).

  1. Nice Wolfman. Don’t mention that we beat Kentucky in the next round. Focus on the low budget team meal!

    • And 15 years later Golly-Nerd has still not won “Best Wookie Costume” at a Comic Con Convention! So sorry about your latest loss, Golly-Nerd. There’s always next week though.

      • You should post this more. I don’t think you are getting your message out there enough.

  2. Klownster’s are reduced to worshiping SUCC Basketball at the foot of a 15 year old Klown U., NCAA Tournament failure.

  3. wolfman, nice of you to give the Dummies something to reminisce about while the real Pac12 schools do the heavy lifting in the big dance!!

as far as the dinner at KFC…..it’s not a steak dinner at Sparks (where i take my guests in NYC), but Bibby probably looked at that scrappy crew and said to himself, “ugh….KFC might be too good for these mugs”

    • I’m a little bit concerned about the racial implications of Scott’s comment. …black head coach. ..fried chicken. …has Scott been hanging out with Fuzzy Zoeller?

      • Maybe the typos that plague the blogger’s threads can be explained by typing with a sheet over one’s head? Just a thought…

        • That would certainly explain a lot. ….Grand Wizard Wolf….it’s all coming together. ….

        • Golly-Nerd knows first hand how hard it is to type when he’s wearing his Wookie costume.

  4. I remember Bibby was a very competitive player in the 60’s and as a coach later at SC…he coached and recruited SC to success, then they fired him…SC had long term coaches in the 50’s-,70’s;then in late 70’s seems like they fired coaches every 3-4 years…no wonder they have a hard time finding coaches.
