Here’s a picture of the peristyle end of the Coliseum during Saturday’s scrimmage, free from the cluttered look of the suites.

  1. Does the blogger have any better ideas to maximize revenue? How else will the non-revenue generating teams survive?

    • Well, perhaps the $15 to $25 million “stipend” football generates will help the women’s sports.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, how about eliminating these god-awful “suites” behind the end zones, and just open up the coliseum as it was in days-of-old? I mean, how much revenue does it generate, a few hundred thousand?– A drop in the bucket as to what is needed.

Oh, sorry, that is an out-dated idea. My bad.

      • Football was the only sport where revenues exceeded costs FY 2014 ($44.8 million to $30.3 million). Without that $14.5 million difference the athletic department would have been $2.2 million in the hole.

  2. Lovely, Scottie. You should advocate the same for Staples. Knock out those nasty suites and put some regular seats in there…. You’re a populist and didn’t know it!

  3. The “suites” are a “silk purse” out of a pig’s ear. The peristyle is the only thing that should be left of the coliseum. Blow the rest of last century up and build something from this century.

  4. The seating area below the peristyle has been wasted for years. It would fitting to offer those seats to charity groups if no one is willing to pay sitting there. Anything is better than putting giant jerseys there. And get rid of those tacky portable bleachers. This isn’t a high school game setting…
