Pete Carroll v. Urban Meyer

Who would you rather have as your head coach? Two great head coaches so you could debate this issue. But what you cannot debate is which coach created a better coaching tree.

Meyer’s had Dan Mullen (Mississippi State), Gary Andersen (Oregon State), Charlie Strong (Texas) and Kyle Whittingham (Utah) just to name a few. Carroll’s had Lane Kiffin (USC), Steve Sarkisian (USC) and Ed Orgeron (Ole Miss). End of story.

  1. Head coaching tree? Yeah that determines who is the better coach.

Bill Belichick’s coaching tree is a disaster and he’s the best EVER.

Pete shiitts on Urban 6 days a week and twice on Sunday. Has Urban ever coached an NFL game ever? Discussion over.

    • I’d wager Meyer never dialed up a loser interception on an opponents 1/2 yard line and butt fumble away a sure Championship victory.

      • You would be right because Urban has never been to a Super Bowl as a coach. He’s never had to make that decision and never will. He’s a college coach that will never touch the NFL because he’s scared. He could have left numerous times, but he doesn’t want the pressure. Jim Mora did well under the NFL pressure…what a failure that guy was….it’s only a matter of time at UCLA before the real Junior is exposed. No Neuheisal Hundley this year…now the real coaching starts.

      • RENTS…when it’s all said and done Carroll comes out victorious over Meyer, who I believe is a great coach. But Carroll has the better career. 2 national championships and a super bowl is considered a coaching mountain top.

        • This one feels more like troll bait, than a USC Trojans trivia question, but here goes:

What is O.J. Mayo’s full name?

        • Little Petey hightailed to Seattle after coaching Klown U into forfeits & sanctions.

Meyer on the other hand, took Ohio State’s “on probation” FB program and won a second National Championship.

          • So saspool, in your opinion no Bowl games or BCS consideration and recruiting restrictions are just a wrist slap?

  2. This is pretty much pointless but I think it’s a solid trolling/click generating effort on your part, Gargamel. You haven’t posted anything Kiffin related in a while. Let’s see what you can come up with!!

    • You’re right, unfortunately. Scottie’s done the “Baby QB” story and now one on Carroll, so Kiffin can’t be far behind.

      • Then he’ll top it off with a story on the soft serve ice cream machine at the Galen.

        • … and the pièce de résistance – a follow-up on the Coliseum clock not working.

          • And don’t forget the thermometer,,,, in Scott’s case, that would be a rectal thermometer……

          • Maybe you can write about the virtues of Toradol, Dr. Rachel Maddow of Inside USC.

  3. END of story?… I’d say it’s just the START…..What have ANY of these coaches accomplished, besides being on the move the last few years?

  4. With Mr. Pete Carroll as Head Coach, Norm Chow Off. Coordinator and QB Coach Extraordinaire, and Coach O Defensive Line Coach and Recruiter Extraordinaire, PC and his USC Team SET THE NCAA COLLEGE FOOTBALL WORLD ON FIRE while Urban sat on his a~~ and watched.
Yes (!), The One, The Only. Discussion over.

  5. What reporting tree did Scott come from? The National Enquirer?….he has blossomed into quite a stump…..

  6. Scottie, Wolfian logic at its most pathetic low.

    1. Carroll has spent most of coaching career in the NFL – which you dismiss since you only count NCAA coaches in the “tree”

    2. Coaching in the NFL is more difficult than the NCAA – Meyer has no experience there

    3. Carroll has a Super Bowl ring – the ultimate achievement in football – Meyer has only seen one on TV

    4. Meyer has relied on his coaches more than Carroll since by your logic Meyer had a better staff with a larger “tree”

    5. The blogger manufactures stories when he is too lazy to report the news

    • College coach ?
Uber has 3 nattys, Caesar has a half of one.

But Uber is a sanctimonious s.o.b. who turned down his
‘dream job’ cause domers wouldn’t let him recruit criminals
and of course require players to actually attend class.

Caesar’s flamboyance made for great copy and also he was a good guy. Did well while doing good in our community.

Hands down prefer the latter, and can’t wait for Uber’s ultimate fall, as opposed to fake heart attack.

  7. It’s a little easier to succeed when you aren’t under the microscope at Utah st., Utah, and Louisville. Seriously. Washington, Ole Miss, Mississippi St, and USC is a whole bigger world.

      • Or the kid from the Giving Tree. Pete kept performing and performing, but Scottie wasn’t satisfied until he was a stump with no coaching tree to speak of.

    • He needs to take the championship and SB rings off and constraint on his tree.

  8. Meyer also wins for number of fake retirements, player arrests (by a stupendous amount) as well as players suddenly and harshly kicked out of program to make room for new blood. End of story.

  9. that’s pretty Ruthless, wolfman!!! it’s like comparing MMA fighters Don Knotts to Clubber Lang!!!

Meyer the cerebral coach with Crystal coming out of his Ar$e, compared to Petey the Dummy who threw away a Superbowl!!!! Meyer who sounds like a college professor, compared to Stammering Pete who uses the word “cool” 5-10 times in each sentence!!!

wolfman, if your goal is to grind what’s left of the trOXans meager remaining self esteem into nano-particles….then go for it!!!

  10. I would take Pete Carroll as my head coach.

However, Pete’s big weakness was his choice of assistants starting around 2005. Before 2005, Pete surrounded himself with some good coaches. However, after 2005 was a complete mess – Jeremy Bates, John Morton, Jethro Franklin, David Watson and Pat Ruel couldn’t compare to their predecessors. The only one who was a homerun was Ken Norton, Jr.

  11. Ask Notre Dame what they think about Urban Meyer – the way he played them prior to his move from UT to FL – that’s where the Charlie Weis hire came from.

Meyer fled Gainesville as it was obvious, even to him, how out of control that program was but hey ‘no harm no foul’ in the corrupt SEC according to the equally corrupt and cowardly NCAA.

Meyer is just like Sabin – a truly great college football coach but unlike Sabin he’ll never dare coach in the NFL.

  12. Don’t criticize Pete for Ed Orgeron. Ed was already a complete idiot before Pete met him. There was nothing Pete could do as far as training Ed Orgeron for the head coaching world. The only reason Orgeron got the head job at ole miss is because he was an assistant coach at such a dominant program.

    • He gave Ed a chance just as he took Norm Chow from NC St. and made him into the most talked about OC in college football because Norm was finally at a programs that ALL watch and, Mike Garrett was right, ALL envy. If Pete has a failing it is in keeping some on that he would have been better shedding (Nick Holt for one) but he always encouraged his staff to look elsewhere to better their own careers – if they failed in making the grade that’s on them not PC if anything it speaks volumes of his ability to mold a staff into a cohesive unit focused on nothing less than NC’s.

  13. From the above mentioned:

Urban Meyer seems/seemed to have the better coaching staff/staff’s which goes to show (Proves!) that Pete Carroll is the “Better” Head Coach !

Pete (According to the above mentioned) had a lot less Coaching help (Input from other team coaches) and still managed to dominate “most” of HIis time during His coaching tenure at USC !!

That is no knock at/on Lane Kiffin, Steve Sarkisian or any other Trojan Assistant !!!

But one Coach left out by the above mentioned Writer is Norm Chow, whom quite possibly was the “Best” play/signal caller in modern College Football history and whom also was absolutely pivotal to the success of the Team-of-the-Decade 2000’s !

Argument made, Pete Carroll is the “Better” Head Coach compared to Urban Meyer…

    End of story !

  14. We all saw what Texas, with a duel threat QB did to PC’s defense, which is what Meyer’s offense runs. Now granted, if Reggie hadn’t lateraled to the unsuspecting 3rd string WR who dropped the ball 10 yards from the goal line and USC scored again, USC would have won that championship as.they would have been too far ahead in the 4th quarter.

  15. That’s because when Pete Carroll hired Lane Kiffin, and Steve Sarkisian, they really didn’t have any major college coaching experience. Norm Chow brought in Sarkisian from El Camino community college, before he stabbed him in the back, and Carroll did his ol’ Buddy, Monte Kiffin a favor, by hiring his Son with only Gofer experience at Fresno State. Both Sarkisian, and Kiffin rode the coattails of USC’s reputation, and Carroll’s success . At least Sarkisian proved he has some type of ability to run a program up in Washington, but Kiffin is the absolute worst, because he had opportunity’s that most assistant coaches work 10 to 15 years for, and he blew all of his chances with his arrogance. And that’s what happens when you are handed great situations, that are unearned .
