USC Coach Steve Sarkisian `Rants’ On NFL Combine

That’s the headline the Rich Eisen used for the following Steve Sarkisian interview. Eisens asks about Marcus Mariota and it turns into a long answer about why the NFL combine has quarterbacks take snaps under center. Interview here

“It just bothered me. It bothered me. I sat here and I watched all these guys get under center and I love Mike Mayock and all these guys, believe me. You guys do a fantastic job covering the combine and covering the draft and we’re critiquing these guys’ drops from under center,” Sarkisian said. “How many times did Tom Brady put his hands under — I don’t even know who the center is at New England, and drop back to pass?”

  1. Sark knows more than you Wolf, and he’s got a shet-ton of talent on his roster, and he can talk all he wants

  2. Scott can only go so long without making fun of the current usc football coach, whoever that may be. When is sark gonna do the lane kiffin thing, and try to ban him from practice. I’m sure pat Haden would be more receptive to it this time.

  3. Sark, you mad bro?

I think Sark may be missing the point. If you are drafting a QB, no matter what offense you run, you want to see if he has the footwork to efficiently drop back from center. Most teams will have to run some plays from under center even if they run a variant of the spread or read option. Would Sark want to draft a player and find out later he can’t execute a 3 or 5 step drop?

    Quit ranting, Sark!
