USC Morning Buzz: Bob Boyd Memorial This Afternoon

BOYD.1952Today is the Bob Boyd memorial service at the Galen Center at 2 p.m. It is easy to forget that besides coaching at USC, Boyd played basketball and was the team MVP in 1952. Above is a page from the 1952 USC yearbook.

    You should have coached the Trojans for at least another 20 or 30 years, and SC would be a totally different college basketball school

      as i recall, Boyd came on board the same year Lew Alcindor took the floor and promptly put 56 on the trOXans. nonetheless, he beat Wooden twice in Pauley which hadn’t been done. absent the dumb tourney rules he wouldda been deep into the bracket several times.

      and he was a stud player. again, if things had gone a bit different, he would’ve been higher on the list of all time Pac greats. 20 more years and he would’ve been a top three legend.
