        • I think the Pac-12 has shed its national rep as being a soft conference. Did it not have a No. 2 standing last year?

          And this underscores how it is difficult to win a Pac-12 championship with so many teams capable of winning each Saturday.

          • I don’t think you can shed the image of being soft when your conference’s top team gets pushed around and beat up on the national stage. Outside of USC, the conference has been soft and I didn’t see anything out of Oregon to dispel that claim.

            If Pac 12 teams were ever as hyped to play out of conference teams as they are to play USC, the narrative would be different. This USC Derangement Syndrome even manifests itself within conference in that a win against USC is bigger than a win against your in-state rival. Ucla wouldn’t struggle with Stanford and Oregon so much if they wanted to beat them as much as they want to beat USC. Winning the Pac 12 wouldn’t be so difficult for Ucla if they wanted it more than they want to beat USC, but they don’t, so they won’t. The conference IS soft.
