USC wide receiver George Farmer and UCLA defensive tackle Ellis McCarthy were five-star recruits who went undrafted yesterday. They also left college early to enter the draft. They were among 24 underclassmen who were undrafted out of 84.

Better to have a reality check in your early 20’s with a chance to finish a degree than the same reality in one’s 30’s+ and join the long line of palookas with no skill set – get that degree!
I couldn’t agree more. If someone offers you a free college education you better take it, especially if you could not afford to go to college without it.
The secret to Stanford recruiting is receiving a degree from Stanford, not being on the athletic team.
I don’t know about Woods but apparently McCarthy was not a great student and had a very questionable work ethic when it came to football. He wasn’t a starter for UCLA last year and somehow decided it was time to go pro? Interesting thought process some of these kids have nowadays.
Seems to be right in line with the bruin culture of underachievement, as far as McCarthy is concerned.
Farmer needed to prove his durability, which he obviously did not.
Yes Yoyo, Dillon Baxter is the epitome of a Klown U hard working overachiever. Dillon was also the mentor for Jr. Pomee.
That’s funny that you would write that. Outside of this blog, in the real world, UCLA grads are running things in every sector of business and society, whereas usc grads are typically only hired by other sc grads*…or, if they are lucky, they work in ancillary roles for Bruins. Just look around LA.
Don’t fool yourself, we run every sector of LA.
*Jobs handed down by daddy are nothing to be proud of.
In actuality, I love both schools – had family graduate from both. Bruin football is the equal to SC basketball.
I’m sure Farmer knew the chances of being drafted were pretty low, but was set on moving on. He’s gonna have to work harder than ever and do it while playing good football and the most important thing…do it all while staying healthy. It can be done. But it’s gonna be a real grind for him.
As for Ellis McCarthy. I just want to say that I feel bad for the kid. First for being a complete letdown. But also because he was controlled into playing at a school which was not even his first, or second choice. He can thank his dad for that. Now his play on the field is something I can’t speak on. But his father said “son you can go to any school you want to except USC”. He absolutely forbade his son on his choice for being a Trojan. Wait…he also said to his son while they visited Oregon “this school has no national titles, they have no kind of football tradition”. While making fun of the Oregon trophy case. It was all about dad.
So according to you sas, McCarthy’s lack of hard work ethic is the fault of his father.
Did his father say Ellis: you be sure to arrive at UCLA fall practice overweight and out of shape in consecutive years.
Did Ellis’ father say: son, you be sure to always play lackadaisical FB and whenever you feel like it take a game off because you have to save yourself for the NFL.
Did his father say: Ellis Don’t bother going to class, because an education is useless.
sas, get a grip.
And he learned this when he ran into the McCarthy’s going back for seconds at the Hometown Buffet. Because SAS would have the inside scoop!
His dad did say exactly those things. How did you know?
Sizziling repartee Mickey Mouse breath
Micky Mouse breath – OUCH!
Where is the Rachel Maddow of Inside USC to correct your spelling? Being a rah rah has its privileges..
M-I-C-K-E-Y
M-O-U-S-E
Are you happy now?
Never mind, that was a dumb question.
The Dr Rachel Maddow of Inside USC must be in surgery now and couldn’t ticket you for that typo.
Ellis Mc Carthy will never play in the nfl, because he has no heart, and if George Farmer stays healthy, he will be a starter in the nfl within 3 years. Farmer has size, speed, and talent, and if he develops better focus, then look out!!
