  1. That’s less than the value of one year of a USC scholarship that he would have received if he came back. Just putting it in perspective.

No matter what, Farmer needs one year of injury-free production to make it to the next step. I hope he makes it.

      • Farmer had to leave. JuJu Smith is already USC’s go-to guy for next year and Farmer wasn’t even assured #2. Farmer couldn’t afford to play 2nd or even 3rd fiddle for year #4. He was done with USC, a place that he couldn’t stay healthy at and was never #1 when he was.

        • Farmer didn’t have to leave, it was a calculated risk. I certainly can see his viewpoint and the chance he gets passed over by JuJu, Adoree, Mitchell. But competition will be stiff in the NFL too. And he’ll going against CBs who are really good in the NFL. If Farmer is as good as he was projected to be in high school then he can beat out JuJu et. al. for playing time.

I just think if someone who has a history of injury then they should have a Plan B (aka a college education).

          • If you knew Farmer’s father and family, you’d know there was no other choice. It’s always been about the NFL and nothing else. Always. Also, Farmer obviously isn’t a great player, nor as good as advertised or projected. He had no chance to beat out JuJu. Zero. Both the USC coaches and Farmer knew this and knew the other knew this. Kind of a tough place to be in and not exactly impressive to the NFL.

Young Farmer can always come back to school, though his forty time is much more important to him – and his father. Always has been. Tough to suddenly change that lifelong perspective just because you couldn’t be the big dog at USC. You can always blame the injuries, which he did for now.

          • You’re right, kids today want a fast path to the NFL. And kids’ parents want a faster path. Parents are the worst advisors for players in that position. Unfortunately coaches have a bias towards returning.

Personally I’d like to see the NCAA allow players to return to school after the draft, as long as they didn’t hire an agent. After all, wouldn’t that be best for the student/athletes? What good does it do the student/athletes to not get drafted and then stay home.

          • I love how you always claim to know the players’ families. You probably claim to know Haden, Pete Carroll and past coaches and staff too.

            Hilarious.

          • What’s actually funny here is that you are right for the first time ever. I know Pat, Pete, Farmer, his dad and some of their close friends. Have spoken with all at least a few times. The Farmers are all about the NFL. We all know that. Trolls like you don’t. Typical little gutty Troll – ignorant and too dumb to admit it.

    • Well said, thank you a paid USC education is a gift few recieve.also I want to thank SW for Real inside Usc information. I had wondered what a free agent like Farmer might get.

      • I agree, this is info that can be appreciated EXCEPT, word below is that Wolfy got the figures wrong — would not be surprised, but inquiring minds want the truth!

  2. New Grads out of the Engineering Departments will do better than that, without the concussions and surgeries!

  3. It should come as no surprise that Wolfie made a typo and didn’t bother to check what he wrote before posting. The NFL minimum salary is $400,000 next year. He forgot a zero.

    • WHOOPS! That’s changes things just a bit! Wonder what the bonus actually is?!

      • “:For 2014, the practice squad salary minimum is $6,300 per week. Teams may pay more than the minimum, and they will typically try to keep players who may sign with another team’s 53-man roster by paying them more than the minimum. The practice players can be cut at any time.

The 53-man roster league minimum for a player with no accrued seasons in 2014 is $420,000 for the year, while a player on the practice squad for the entire year would make $107,100.”- SB Nation

        • Thank you !!!! Not only concerning Farmer, I wondered what the others signed , not drafted might get.I appreciate you taking the time to share this information… Thank you!!!

    • LAT and NBC are reporting the $55k. Must have got it from Wolfman!

  4. I think Walton made that his freshman year. You have to pay for good talent.

    • Absolutely, Reggie Bush knew his value in $$$$ and O.J. Mayo didn’t play for peanuts.

    • Golly-Nerd, how much did Pete Mayhew get for playing Chewbacca in the first Star Wars film in ’77?

  5. 40,000 seems low,but not bad for working 6 months;he surely has what it takes if he stays healthy;I think he could have made big strides at SC and completed his degree, but he left.

  6. But if George Farmer actually makes the team, he will earn close to $400,000 dollars. Farmer is in a good place right now, because if he stays healthy he will flourish, without a doubt.
