WR Josh Imatorbhebhe Picks USC

WR Josh Imatorbhebhe of Suwanee, Ga., committed to USC this morning. He was also recruited by Lane Kiffin at Alabama. Of course there had to be a video.

  1. I want to hear Scott pronounce this guys name…..and how about a little credit to Tee Martin for plucking yet another player away from SEC country…….Mark Richt must be really ticked off…

  2. One of the better video commitments, IMO…..Scott, you may not like the videos that these kids put out nowadays (I’m normally not a huge fan of them either), but deal with it….it’s a different world out there, thanks to social media……you’d have a hard time fielding a decent team if you prevented this type of freedom of expression…..

    • Let’s face it – these high school kids can produce a much better video than Scottie and he’s jealous.

    • For sure, there was no video footage of David Dotson, Rocky Hinds, etc. So at least we can see what we are getting.

    • Very much agree!

Every generation wants to differentiate itself. What is gained in taking a stand against it?

It’s like the uniforms. If the players generally want some change, isn’t it better to take a stand against a very badly designed new uniform (like that helmet from last week), rather than a stand against accommodating what the players want?

  3. What’s with these out-of-state WR commitments? This was supposed to the the big year for California WRs, yet USC now has two out-of-state receivers.

    • Do you agree that you recruit the players you think will excel, and they commit when they commit? And committing isn’t signing, especially with out-of-state players.

I read that USC is in a good position with several excellent CA WRs. Plus a local JC transfer just visited.

Either way, do you see a problem coming at WR? If only every position group looked that solid!

      • Call me greedy, but I like it when USC pulls in all of the top Calif. talent and doesn’t leave anything for other Pac-12 teams. So I worry that we won’t have room for some very good receivers come signing day. Although in general I agree with you regarding out-of-state commits, the two WRs were recruited by Tee Martin and his guys stay committed.

        • From what I have read, colleges and prospects have ways of signalling to each other as NSD approaches–whether it be the player conducting lots more visits toward the end, or the college reducing contact, or suggesting that playing time may be tough, and so on.

Schools cannot control if and/or when prospects commit, and NSD is far off. It is not ideal for the schools, and in some ways, not for the prospects. Such is life.

As to this particular commitment, Josh I., we do know some very encouraging things: he has offers from AL, Auburn, FL, Ohio State, GA, Louisville (Air Petrino), Tenn. (a Wide Receiver U. in its own right), Stanford, Emory, and 20 other schools. I gather that he is not only a major prospect, but a smart student as well (not irrelevant in football, which is partly why a lot of Stanford players get drafted). Therefore, Josh I. is NOT evidence that Tee Martin is going off the deep end in the Southeast.

IMHO, there is really only one broad issue to worry about at USC: how good AT COACHING, TEACHING, STRATEGY, AND ADJUSTMENTS are Sark and Wilcox? If those two men really excel in those four areas, there is little reason for worry. USC is very highly competitive in all other ways. And if those two men don’t so excel, there is little comfort to be taken in recruiting victories.

  4. “He was also recruited by Lane Kiffin at Alabama.”

Autism. There is no known cure.

      • “The ideal treatment for Asperger Syndrome coordinates therapies that address core symptoms of the disorder, including poor communication skills and obsessive or repetitive routines.”

        • But Golly-Nerd, attending Comic Con conventions every week and watching Smurfs reruns 6 hours a day is no way to deal with oyur own Asperger’s.

    • Goll-Nerd knows autism well. He’s most comfortable inside the friendly confines of his Wookie costume.

    • Fair point. The fact that Josh was offered by Alabama tells us something. Adding the name “Kiffin” to that fact is pretty irrelevant.

In the same vein, if USC were to edge out LSU for a DL or DB prospect, that would be informative about the recruit. Adding the name “Orgeron” would not make it more informative.

    • I was thinking he same thing….however, he needs to pack on another 25lbs – 30lbs and grow taller by a couple of more inches..he’s not a burner, so playing TE would suit him….not sure about his leaping ability…….

      • He’s been clocked recently at running a 4.58 in the 40 yard dash. But if you’ve seen his game tape he doesn’t look fast at all and has the moves of an awesome TE. Either way he’s gonna be interesting to watch. I can see him bullying cornerbacks.

        • Who knows how he has been coached in HS? He’s said to be smart and diligent, and smart guys who run 4.58 and are built that big and strong can do a lot of damage once they absorb best methods technique. Larry Fitzgerald is but one example.

          • I agree with everything you say. He will be a factor in some way at WR or TE perhaps.
