Amy Okonwko Transfers To TCU

USC freshman basketball player Amy Okonwko has transferred to TCU. She is one of three freshmen basketball players (McKenzie Calvert, Chyanne Butler, Okonwko) to leave USC, with only one freshman remaining (Kristen Simon).

    • They have a commitment from the #1 player in the nation in 2017. Point Guard. I think from Long Beach Poly. I forgot her name. Not signed of course, but something to look forward to perhaps.

          • Open the wallet and they will come running to coach here. Keep hiring on the cheap and we get failure.

          • So you can’t name a single coach?……..just open our wallets and they’ll coming running?….Is women’s basketball really that much of a revenue sport?

          • It is at UConn and Tennessee. When the ruins had their one national championship in the 70s they fiilled Pauley Pavillion. The way our mens program is going, and with the one and done era making it almost impossible to keep any top male recruits, we would do better to invest in a top flight womens program where the players stay 4 years and there is only competition on the West Coast from Stanford. We showed in the 1980s with Cheryl Miller and the McGee Twins it is possible.

          • I attended USC when Cheryl Miller and the McGee twins began their mini-dynasty….they had an excellent coach, Linda Sharp…..BTW, one of their college teammates was Cynthia Cooper….in the last 20 years, women’s basketball has been dominated by only a few teams (UConn with 10 championships, Tennessee with 5 championships, and Notre Dame with 1 championship and 4 runner ups), with Baylor and Stanford dominating their respective conferences and Baylor winning a couple of championships……BTW, doesn’t USC recruit USC? According to Scott it does……..and still, you didn’t give me the name of a coach who will take USC women’s basketball to the promised land…Geno Auriemma?… I don’t think so……

          • Why should Baylor be better than USC at anything? USC’s bad coaching hires can negate the natural draw of blue chip athletes. We learned that to our sorrow from the Hackett years. Listen to what Steve B. said below. He really knows USC athletics.

          • THAT’S the folly of women’s basketball….all it really takes is one player to make a huge difference in a team…. Baylor had Brittney Griner, one of the best shot blockers in women’s basketball history …. she grew up in Houston, TX…..do you really think that it would have made any difference who the head coach would have been at USC?… why didn’t she go to UConn???…

          • Coaching is everything. The great players follow the coaches. We should have grabbed the ruin coach Nikki Caldwell before she left. She was beginning to build something, now they are returning to the mire.

          • She probably would have been a good hire….15 of the last 25 championships have been won by UConn and Tennessee……and great players follow winning coaches…..I don’t see anyone unseating UConn in the near future, unless they self destruct…..or, it would have to be a perfect storm of talented players and bracket selection, come tournament time….

          • “Why should Baylor be better than USC at anything?” ….. feeling a little entitled, are we?

          • No, just realistic. Have you been to Waco? We certainly have more to offer.

          • Yes, I’ve been to Waco several times….I used to have a customer there…don’t underestimate home cooking…..everyone has different priorities….some people would rather be a big fish in a small pond, where the expectations aren’t as high….the fast life of LA isn’t for everyone……

          • Bloomberg Sports took a look at the finances of the country’s major women’s college basketball programs and discovered that without exception, every school spends on more on the sport than they take in.

In the “big six” conferences, most of that money goes to the salaries of coaches, some of whom earn more by themselves than the program earns back in revenue.

At Auburn, for example, salaries and benefits for all coaches totaled $1.1 million even though the program’s entire operating revenue for 2010 was just $64,000. The program posted a $3M total loss.

“There Isn’t A Single Women’s College Basketball Program That Makes Money

The results shouldn’t be surprising, however. Only 14 athletic departments in Division I turned a profit last year and more than half of all football programs — easily the most profitable college sport — spend more they make each year. (The rest is made up by student fees and university general funds.)

And even given the big losses, women’s basketball still generates more revenue than any other female sport.”

        • It’s not like anyone besides Stanford is actually holding their own. It’s a conference waiting for someone else to step up. I’d give Cooper another year. She earned at least that.

          • We used to win NCAA championships in women’s basketball. Cooper is not the solution.

      • ‟i think, i forgot, not signed, perhaps‟….i guess that…
‟this day in s.c. history‟ calendar only takes you so far.
        fwiyght ung though!

        • You remind me of my cousins (Ucla fans) who talk $h!t and have never experienced greatness, but run their mouths. Keep running it. It’s pathetic.

          • Yes sas, you must revel in Men’s Basketball program’s success. Are you the Chairman of the let’s extend Andyain’twinning’s HC contract out to 2020 committee?

          • Never. You’ve never experienced success. But I’m not mad. It’s very very sad and funny in my eyes.

          • (picture Elmer Fudd saying)….vey-wee vey-wee sad you waz-kul!
Please tell us more about your personal conquests and how you “experienced greatness” and “experienced success”.
PEOPLE OF INSIDE sc w/SCOTT WOLF…..
The messiah (real name…SAS) has arrived!
(never mind he doesn’t know the difference between pee and pea)
            phuyght ung

          • MAI TAI. please tell me you’re not that dumb. “Experienced greatness” as in actually cheering, witnessing, watching a Heisman Trophy winner(too many to count), Winning Rose Bowls which are played in your stadium. And I actually know what it feels like when my team raises that National Championship Trophy above their heads. Sure we’re not at the top at the moment, but at least I’ve felt that. And it feels good! I’m never disrespectful unless someone such as yourself opens their mouth and calls me out……I hate Ucla, but I have enough respect to be civil with you. So I’ll say this last comment respectfully. We have 11 National Titles, get one then we’ll talk.

          • Unfortunately, Thyme-Ex (Bucket) really is that dumb…..and he doesn’t care anything at all about sports……he, like OLAF, enjoy stirring the pot…..he simply craves the attention that he receives from us by making these inane comments… neither one are really sports fans….at least they haven’t shown much intelligence on this blog….

          • I glanced at a couple of inside UCLA stories yesterday. None of these Trolls interested in UCLA. And u didn’t see any TROJAN fans pestering the people in their site.

          • Here’s what I know…..MORA AND ALFORD have demonstrated they are more than capable of kicking your rear ends REGULARLY.
CLEARLY….. your path to GREATNESS embraces the likes of O’Neil, Andyaintwinnin’, GoatBoy, and El Camino Steve (seriously….that’s the best you can do?)
I can safely assume… you guys are BONEHEADS and your biggest knock against UCLA will continue to be…’MORA is leaving for the NFL’.
            Weak sauce…., but please do
            feghyt ung

          • so….you actually WATCHED while something was going on? did you happen to also WATCH the news conference when garrett sealed your fate with his dumb comments? Did you also WATCH the press conferences when your HERO d-back supposedly came to the rescue of a DROWNING CHILD? Did you also WATCH the episode on television when “THE JUICE RAN LOOSE’? (lemme know when you want me to stop…because there’s plenty more to WATCH…..POMMEE, CROMWELL, and WIDNEY immediately come to mind). Have you ever WATCHED the news report on another student murdered near your campus? When’s the last time you WATCHED (and experienced greatness) while being there….at a socal BASKETBALL GAME? NIKE shoe’s on that bronze statue….now that’s just GREAT!
No wonder you guys are all arrogant!
            fyght ung (rhymes with DUNG)

          • Time Mex or Mai Tai. I won’t read your comments anymore bro. So don’t bother. Win that NATIONAL TITLE. Then we can have a convo.
Thank you, I’m here all week!

    • Cooper-Dyke actually has a pretty good coaching record.
It goes well with her accolades as a player: two collegiate championships, two WNBA MVP awards, four NBA finals MVP awards, and three WNBA scoring titles.

      Maybe you’re just ignorant?

  1. she’s gonna regret leaving…..just wait till she finds out TCU hasn’t got any of those tasty HOT BOX BURRITOS.
    fyitgh ung

    • That was funny!!! It’s a shame she didn’t transfer to the men’s team.

  2. I don’t blame her for leaving. Got such little playing time all season.
Showed a nice touch from the field in the few minutes saw her play.
Right now Cooper is all over the place with recruiting without any team chemistry being built up. She has been a disappointment with her own players brought into the program. The track coach Gilbert has done a lot more in two years even being a ucla alum.
