A tough start for USC after a 10-year wait for NCAA Tournament action. The offense is nearly non-exisitent except for Garrett Stubbs and Jeremy Martinez, each had two hits and the rest of the team had 1 hit. Now USC has to play the loser of San Diego State-UC Santa Barbara tomorrow at 3 p.m. in a must-win game.
And now it’s 6-1 on an RBI single and the Trojans are in a rough spot going to the bottom of the ninth. Virginia takes a 5-1 lead on a bloop single that looked like it should have been caught as it fell betweeen first baseman Jeremy Martinez and A.J. Ramirez. Tough luck for Kyle Davis, who leaves after allowing seven hits in 8.2 innings.
Relief pitcher Josh Sborz falls behind 3-0 in the count then strikes out USC’s Timmy Robinson to end the 8th. Virginia 3, USC 1.
The Trojans cut the lead to 3-1 as Garrett Stubbs walks and eventually scores on Jeremy Martinez’s single to left field. Stubbs and Martinez have four of USC’s five hits.
Virginia’s Adam Haseley doubles, takes third on a bunt and scores on an error. The Cavs lead, 3-0, in bottom of the 8th inning. Each team with four hits in beautiful Lake Elsinore.

Wolf I didnt see you at the game. I hope you ask Hubbs why he left our starting pitcher in the game untl the mid 9th inning when he was done in the 6th. That’s gotta be the worst coaching I’ve seen by Trojan coach in a playoff setting that I can recall. Nobody was even warming up in the pen. The kid pitched good! But our 3basemens error led to their momentum and big inning. And all our hitters did was fly out, no help for the right handed pitcher.
