USC plays the loser of tonight’s Virginia/San Diego State game tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Lake Elsinore.

The Trojans break the game open on Timmy Robinson’s sacrifice fly and two-run doubles by Blake Lacey and AJ Ramirez. It’s 11-3 in the 9th inning. And Reggie Southall’s RBI single makes it 12-3.

If USC wins, Tyler Gilbert will be a hero. He entered the game with a 2-0 count and the bases loaded. The count went to 3-2 and he stuck out Billy Frederick to keep USC ahead, 5-3, going into the ninth inning.

Another RBI single makes it 5-3 USC with one out in the 8th. Relief pitcher Marc Huberman is in the game.

The Gauchos add a run and it’s 5-2 in the 8th inning as starter Kyle Twomey leaves the game. Twomey’s line: 7.1 innings, 7 hits, 2 runs, 3 K’s, 3 walks

USC leads UC Santa Barbara, 5-1, as an error brings home another run. It’s looking like the Trojans will be playing tomorrow, possibly two games if they win the first.

Garrett Stubbs gets his fifth hit in two games to drive home a run and now USC leads, 4-1, in the 7th inning.

Reggie Southall gives USC another run as he walks and then goes right through the stop sign from third base coach Gabe Alvarez to score on Bobby Stahel’s double in the 7th inning. It’s 3-1 Trojans.

A quiet sixth inning for both teams and the Trojans still lead, 2-1, heading into the seventh inning.

Kyle Twomey gets out of bases-loaded jam in the fifth as Santa Barbara gets a lone run on a sacrifice fly and the Trojans lead, 2-1, after five innings.

USC takes a 2-0 lead as Jeremy Martinez’s single to center scores Reggie Southall, who walked and moved to second on another walk.

It’s the bottom of the 4th and the Trojans still lead 1-0. USC has five hits while UCSB’s allowed two.

USC takes a 1-0 lead over UC Santa Barbara as Bobby Stahel singled and scored on Garrett Stubbs’ double off the wall.

The Trojans have two errors in two innings as right fielder AJ Ramirez tries to throw a runner out at first on a single and the ball goes toward the UCSB dugout. Fortunately for USC, it did not result in any runs. Still 0-0 in the third.

It’s scoreless in the 2nd and USC left fielder David Oppenheim ended the top of the inning when he mistakenly decided to go for second on a drive off the 35-foot right field fence. He was easily thrown out.
