Sprinter Andre De Grasse Named National Track Athlete Of Year

DEGRASSEUSC sprinter Andre De Grasse, who won the 100-and-200 meters last weekend at the NCAA championships, was named national track athlete of the year by the U.S. track and field coaches’ assn.

It’s the latest honor for De Grasse, who must now decide if he will sign with Nike or Adidas. Or return for his senior season.

This is also a good time to appreciate Mel Patton, who won the 100-and-200 in 1949 and also won two gold medals at the 1948 London Olympics. And he was on the cover of Time magazine. How often does that happen for a USC athlete?

  1. Fight on, Andre!……A well deserved award……and thank you to Mel Patton for representing USC and making us proud to be Trojans……

    • And remember “the fastest man alive” in the 1920 and 1924 Olympics, WWI veteran Charlie Paddock, who was featured in “Chariots of Fire”!

      • Paddock was a real renaissance man of the bathtub gin generation. Mr. Jenkins notes he was also editor of the Daily Trojan 1920-21.

      • Hmm love the craven way you sneak into the discussion acting as if you truly care about Illium but – alas – you are what you shall always be ‘UCLA owns LA football’…now go worship the peckerhead and reply with your patented vitriol or better yet forget to ‘switch’ and have you real doppleganger do it instead….

BTW – all here so love your hatred – it’s what makes the craven ‘hoi polloi’ what the patricians ‘know’ is their abode….living on the westside in a rent controlled unit….

        Jack….our Jack….if only…Bobby…Teddy….why? Gone are the days

Hmmm sniffing….and let’s all await his patented bile…watch as he types with ‘fury’ and ‘passion’…

  2. Breathtaking speed… hope to see him at the Olympics for Canada one day soon.

  3. One only needs to peruse the attached link to understand the dominance of Troy:

about dot usc dot edu forward slash history forward slash uscs dash olympic dash heritage forward slash

    • one only need to watch ONE EPISODE of Rocky and Bullwinkle to see how self proclaimed ‘brilliant’ Russians are easily undermined by a Flying Squirrel and Moose. Isn’t that right ‟BORE-US″???????
      5eywhite ung?

    • One only needs to read the first sentence of an Inspector Clouseau post to know it is a waste of time.

  4. Was he named the National college Track and Field Athlete? He’s from Canada. So I’m surprised if he’s the National USA Track and Field Athlete
