Morning Buzz: USC Moves Up To No. 3 In Directors’ Cup Standings

USC is ranked No. 3 in the latest Directors’ Cup standings, which awards points for each NCAA sport. The irony is that USC achieved perhaps its highest ranking without winning an NCAA title. The Trojans won the sand volleyball title but that does not become an NCAA sport until next year.

Stanford is ranked No. 1 with 1,448 points, UCLA is No. 2 with 1,186 while USC is No.3 with 1,159. The only sport left is baseball and will be factored in either June 25 or 26.

  1. Does this mean that *GASP* Haden may not be such a horrible AD after all?

  2. Does THE BALCONY JUMP get factored in next year too…or is just an intramural…….Not bad for a KLOWN SCHOOL.
    fiyieght ung

  3. I would like to see the breakdown of how these total points were tallied, especially for Stanford, which boggles my mind how those smart folks can also be the best jocks. I mean, where do they find the time?

  4. The irony is this was done with an above average, not great, football team and bad basketball teams. Get those 3 teams winning conference titles and look out. The Haden Sports Juggernaut will really be on a Roll!

    • If you don’t care about Basketball and football and don’t mind finishing behind the ruins it is great news.

      • This is reason to be optimistic for the future. When football is full strength and hopefully basketball get their act together.

    • The irony is that you think SoCal Basketball could ever win a conference title.
You’re a sand volleyball school now, not that there’s anything wrong with that…..

      • It is a puzzle the only time SC basketball has been good was back when Wooden was rolling and SC was the also ran. SC just can’t get a decent coach who can have respectable teams.

  5. Correct me if I’m wrong. I also believe USC did this with less sport to score points in than the other schools. I believe one can score in 20 sports. However USC only has 19.

So I called it. I said we would really rally and finish from 3rd to 7th with our Spring sports after a poster who was hating on Haden was crying over us being 17th 3 months ago.

  6. Baseball was a wash if you go by the regional finish. ‘ruins scored zilch in ncaa track & field besides losing the dual meet. Like to see
how they determine the points for each sport if by final polls or other criteria. Women gymnastics and softball more than likely made the difference. Too much dialogue involved to discuss the worth of AD Haden. New name for former ‘ruin coach John Woodead.
