USC Catcher Garrett Stubbs Wins Johnny Bench Award

STUBBSUSC catcher Garrett Stubbs won the Johnny Bench Award last night, which goes to the nation’s top catcher. Stubbs was the Pac-12 defensive player of the year, a first-team All-American, the MVP of the Lake Elsinore Regional, threw out 52.8 percent of baserunners and also stole 20 bases. Above, he accepts the award from the legendary Bench.

  1. He’s a really patient and smart hitter, an excellent defensive catcher. For some reason the way he works the count at the plate reminds (not saying he is or is gonna be) of Buster Posey.

  2. Amazing that Stubbs only lists at 5-10, 165. Hope he has a good major league career. Great Trojan.

    • Definetly deserving. I saw him play in the hot sun taking pitches off his body as well as four balls, very good defensive catcher and he can hit. He is maybe 5-10, but he can play.
