World Cup Talk: USA 2, Germany 0

And the U-S-A is going to the World Cup final! Too bad I was rooting for Germany. The ref did no favors with two key botched decisions, including a dubious USA penalty that was outside the box. But you cannot miss a penalty in a semifinal game, Sacic. C’mon England!

  1. Heck with you Wolf

I am for the USA, whether it be in women’s soccer or chess.

Of course, it is well documented that I don’t find the women’s sports’ game as enchanting as the men’s, but the men won’t ever win in soccer in my lifetime, so I am all for the women, win or lose in the finals.

U-S-A. U-S-A, U-S-A– all the way; that’s what I say, hey, all the way

    • addendum to ‘men won’t ever win in soccer in my lifetime’…kinda like the boy’s basketball team at good ol’ so so cal…..

  2. Germany had no business playing in this game after that piss poor performance against France. France outplayed them the whole 90 minutes and they got bailed out by a handball. They played the same against the USA and were not bailed out this time….not even a close game. USA is not that great of a team, we have great D and no O, yet made Germany look like our best game of the tournament.

  3. Wolf, you should stick to reviewing hamburgers. That is the extent of what you know.

Your “opinion” sounds eerily similar to the one guy spouting off that the US should have had a red card and that the foul on Germany was outside the box. Neither was the case. The US clearly outplayed Germany who managed 0 shots on goal. The Romanian ref went out of her way not to call many fouls against Germany on a regular basis and allowed the Germans to regularly mug Alex Morgan in the box.

The better team won the game and rooting against your own country? Only in America.

    • Are you joking? I’ve heard people from different countries cheer against their own country’s national teams a number of times over the years.

Most recently, you must not have paid attention to the large-scale World Cup protests in Brazil. Many people and fans said they hoped the Brazil squad would lose and bow out early.

I can’t stand the “American exceptionalism” nonsense that gets floated around because it’s a bunch of bull.

      • You state “American exceptionalism” is ‘nonsense’….because it’s bull.” Then why do millions worldwide every year attempt to come here? This is an exceptional unique nation in world history.

I’ll wager you cheer loud and often against the USA teams in any endeavor. That you’re embarrassed by US success in any worldwide competition especially the Olympics – I know you are embarrassed by the success of US athletes.

        • Let’s see here:

          Falsity, assumption, assumption, ignorant falsity.

No need to reply to your drunk rant beyond this.

          #poetry

      • Sorry, grave soul. Not sure what the concept of “American exceptionalism” has to do with rooting for your own country. I know we have some people that can be obnoxious in this country and we have plenty of things to improve, but to root against it is just wrong, IMO.

        • I was referring to your “only in America” comment. You imply that it only happens in America, as if people in the U.S. have more freedom to do something as simple as cheer against their national team. That is by definition American exceptionalism.

I was cheering for the U.S. women’s team, but I could care less if others in this country weren’t.

    • Great match for USA women !!!!
By far their best to date…Defense !!!!! They beat Germany in all aspects including coaching !! Refs let them play, most physical match for USA of cup..The women played their Hearts out.another shut out for Solo..is that 5 straight now ?

      • This isn’t hoops. Only one Ref with two line lackeys assisting. Many fouls that should have been called weren’t as well as many that were called which shouldn’t have been. Ditto for yellow card bookings. Ref needs more experience however she had good positioning and a good relaxed rapport with the players. Another shut out for Solo. Amazing observation, as the stats show zero shots on goal. Is the Pope a Catholic?

        • As you said its not hoops, but to me the hand checking, body checking looked a lot like under the basket. Other than free kick, only one serious shot which Solo deflected over net..our mid field and goal defense was great.. As for the Pope being Catholic, been a while sience I’ve asked him.

    • Rooting for the Germans or England is a kick to our crotch. And I’m not even a soccer fan.

    • I think the foul was outside the box and usually whenever it’s close a ref will rule it outside the box and give a direct kick and not a penalty.
However, USA dominated the game and definitely deserved the win.

  4. Foul does not have to occur inside the box to be ruled a penalty. If the foul directly interferes from a chance at goal, it is up to the referee’s discretion.

        • Is that from Ted’s Official Rules of World Football? It’s sure as hell not from the FIFA version. Apparently in the Ted’s version if a foul occurs at midfield that stops a breakaway the ref can give a PK.

          • I love it when rah rahs, who can’t make any judgements on USC, get judgemental.

          • You are simply beyond belief.
A troll posts a ludicrous statement. I challenge him and his position is quickly shown to be devoid of any fact. He insults me with a rude name.
You enter the fray and tell me I’m judgmental.(correct spelling, BTW)
I strongly encourage you to find a more rewarding way to spend your free time.

          • He isn a “troll”, he is just a regular here who dares to disagree with you and your big ego. You insult other and you play the victim card? I can’t believe what I am reading!

          • “This blog is designed to discuss current events, not create a unified consensus.”…..He really doesn’t know Scott, at all, does he?

          • This PUTZ replies to comments that were made several days ago……that weren’t even directed toward HIM !!!……..

          • I know. I think I’m done attempting to reason with him.
He’s like BruinRob only he claims to be a USC supporter.
            This is one strange place.

          • I hear you…..I’ve gone back and forth with that nuttjobb, but he’s simply not worth the effort….he is confrontational, opinionated and delusional… and those are his GOOD points! ….I completely ignored him for about a week, then thought I’d engage in some witty banter, but then he imploded again, so I’m done with him….. Fight on!

          • “Back and forth” describes your manic depressive medical condition perfectly! There is hope for you, Garry Bleauz.

          • He seems like a guy who would enjoy going to Monty Python’s Argument Clinic.

        • Jethro can’t be the ‘Rule Fool’. You have cornered that particular market.

    • Just saw your movie Ted. Sorry about the genitalia thing.
On a soccer note…best stick to being a cuddly talking bear with a bong and a foul mouth. By no stretch of the imagination would anyone (including a newbie AYSO parent) interpret the advantage clause or whatever, with such a cavalier know-nothing comment. In the absence of a FIFA lawbook or possession of IBDs (International Board Decisions) suggest you acquire a copy of ‘Fair or Foul?’, the complete guide to Soccer Officiating, which has sold over1/2 million copies of the English version.
Bottom line, stick to what you know, whatever that may be…but it sure ain’t soccer.

  5. This is one of those rare times when Wolf is actually right about something. The German penalty was the definition of a last defender foul and had to be a red card. The foul on Morgan was just outside the area and any ref worth his (her) salt knows when it’s borderline you always give it outside.

Regardless, the US were the better team and deserved to win.

  6. Still Wolf, how could you root for ze German? C’mon England?
Wow! You hate your alma mater and you’re country? I’m not surprised!

  7. The USA Women’s soccer team reminds me of the USC men’s basketball team. Not sure why but they do.

  8. Vulfman, you KNOW i love you like a blood brother, but i can’t HELP but suspect your antipathy towards the US team is related to the fact the COACH and TWO PLAYERS are UCLA BRUINS!!! basically, it’s a UCLA team, wolfman!!!!

that’s how we DO IT, boyeeeeeeeeeez!!!!!!!

    it’s like THAT, Vulfman!!!!

    #ItsSOLikeThat

  9. of course there was no doubt this loser roots against his home country…… he certainly has no loyalty to his almamater and probably hates his parents too.

  10. Scott Wolf. ….ever the lovable contrarian……..I hope that you choke on your bangers and mash!

  11. Wolfie would root for ISIS if they’d sent him a dirty soccer sweatshirt he could wear.

  12. Your girls came up weak today, Scottie. This U.S. team is made of some strong stuff. Will be fired up to see them lift the Cup.

  13. A good point about the ‘ruins on the team including the coach. As long as the players do nothing to help it’s okay to beat a foreign
competitor. I have trouble rooting for a ‘ruin in the Olympics being
an individual participation. The USA will win the overall medal total without any needed help from a Westwood athlete . A question do you cheer for a foreign Trojan athlete vs. an American bruin one?

  14. And I suppose you will be rooting for Russia in 2018.

    Scott’s a commie pinko.

    U-S-A! U-S-A!

  15. Great move wolfie.. having my comment removed where I basically called you un-American for rooting for Germany and England, but what should I expect from a so called USC beat writer that spends 99% of his time bashing the team he covers. Why USC even lets you in the door I cannot understand. U S A U S A U S C U S C
