WR Michael Pittman To USC

Oaks Christian wide receiver Michael Pittman (a four-star!) committed to USC today, selecting the Trojans over Oregon. Pittman was originally committed to UCLA. He then favored the Ducks but said a recent trip to USC where he got the first-class treatment from the coaching staff put the Trojans back into the mix. He is the 14th commitment for USC’s Class of 2016.

  1. I trust the staffs judgement and knowledge for talent. We now have three WRs in the class. Tyler Vaughns will commit in mid August. And I believe Trevon Sidney his teammate at Bishop Amat will become the 5th receiver in this year’s class. Nice pick-up with Pittman. But our last scholarships will be for Must Get players. The class is filling up. Congratulations to Pittman. Fight On.

    • Pittman wasn’t going anywhere at UCLA, so he settles for socal – already about 10 deep at WR. It’s obvious Mr Pittman doesn’t recognize used car sales tactics.

          • But seriously you are right to some extent. Kessler is one bruin loss away from being known as another Rob Johnson. IMO.

          • Not sure anyone wanted to beat UCLA more than Rob Johnson, probably wanted it way too much. The family felt that his older brother Bret was mistreated by the Bruins and wanted payback.

          • I always liked Rob Johnson, but he along with Keyshawn and Willie Mcginest couldn’t beat Ucla and Notre Dame.

          • #GoingOnZeroNationalTitlesInRecentMemory. You’ve got to couple a cross-town victory with a Nattie – even a conference victory – to make it worth anything, 2-Buck-Chuck!

        • Something tells me the story of where Pittman ends up still may have a few twists and turns. Shades of Jordan Payton? February is a long ways off. And if he sticks with SC or goes elsewhere, he may end up on D.

          • Ucla wanted him as an athlete. On Defense or Offense. Oregon wanted him at slot. And SC wanted him as an outside receiver. I could see Oregon trying to pull him back in. I think he cooked off on the Bruins. Our main concern will be holding onto Mique Juarez. He’s been acting like a primadonna free agent

          • I agree about UCLA. That isn’t happening. But you haven’t heard the last from the Ducks and you never know who else might get his ear.

Juarez has been flirting heavily with UCLA but still “committed” to SC. Committed seems to be a very fluid term these days. With SC’s huge linebacking class in 2015, Juarez may be looking at other opportunities without torching the SC option at this point.

          • Yeah. Juarez will be a nail biter til signing day. But he wants to be used the same way as Sua Cravens and it looks like Cravens will leave after this season so we will have that working in our favor. Ucla has some good LBs coming in as well. Lokeni Toailoa, and Krys Barnes are really good. The only reason SC backed off of Barnes was that he’s had four concussions in the last two years. Juarez will be getting the full court press from the Bruins.

        • With Jeannie Buss’s recent statement ,I think one Laker owner is starting to get that.”The Times are a Changing”

          • Their time has passed – unless they surrender direct control now – the future of that franchise it is over – they don’t have the skill set their father Dr. Buss had. If they were smart they would ‘stand down’ and bring in non-family members to make the key decisions. Risky? Absolutely but not definitely an implosion – what they are doing now is sure suicide and it all began when they foolishly gave that last contract to Bryant instead of giving him his unconditional release.

To allow this individual to be present in making any presentation to potential free agents is blatant enough there is no future for the Lakers with current ownership mgmt..

Professional sports is riddled with this nonsense – somehow a player, past his prime, is still owed something – they’re owed nothing be it Bryant or Payton Manning, ‘Magic’ Johnson or Babe Ruth – goodbye you have been well compensated – good luck and there’s the door.

          • Yep. There’s rumors that Magic Johnson and the Dodgers group want the Lakers and are gonna try and buy them when the time comes. Could be a year or two. Could be longer. One things for sure, they’re in need of new leadership on all levels.

          • sas few there be in any endeavor that succeeds multiple-generations in fact save for Ford and DuPont in business I know of none.

The one thing that smart companies and sport franchises do is ‘change’
with the times. Merely stating you’re great because at one time you were
            is nonsense.

Look at the Celtics today….the Maple Leafs…..the
Dolphins…..Athletics. Rare it is for a new owner to both succeed and
see the same with his children

Bryant is a cancer because he has been allowed to be one but what is even more bizarre is that no one on that team will do a thing about him.

As crazy as Balmer is he wouldn’t have kept Bryant with the Clippers – he’s worked too hard to get to where he has one of only 29 other owners of an NBA franchise.

          • As a lifetime Lakers fan, I’ve had waaay more high than lows. But I’m ready for new leaders.

          • Way more HIGHS than lows…That’s what makes the return to greatness a necessity.. Concerning Kobe , so many years ,5 rings game after game of greatness.. His current demeanor and contract is really reflection of what ownership allows.. What makes Kobe great is also what makes the problem …Lakers will return to greatness_,when? I trust sooner than later.Changes are coming… I still to this day ask the question… What would Chick Say?

          • Kobe is on mount Rushmore of Lakers. He and Jordan are probably the best I ever seen at taking over games in clutch time, LeBron has nothing on them in that category. But for him to say he wants to win when he’s collecting these checks on the bench is just blind selfishness. The owner’s gave him the money. So it’s not entirely his fault. But if he wanted to win today he would cough up some money to get help. He’s obviously just trying to past Karl Malone on the scoring list now that there’s nothing for him to play for.

          • The problem is 60+% structural, with the big-market teams having been reined in by their less fortunate brethren. .

The CBA rules favor a player staying with his current team. The increased luxury tax and new revenue sharing rules have given teeth to the cap. High state income taxes hurt teams like the Lakers and Knicks. And the Laker owners, like many other owners, depend on the team for income–unlike Ballmer, Paul Allen, Prokxxxx (the Russian nickel magnate)

No change of ownership is going to entirely neutralize these forces. That’s a fantasy.

          • It would be a lot different if you had Magic Johnson selling you in the meeting rooms

          • No dispute that in the “executive draft”, Magic would get picked long before Jim Buss.

          • What upsets me about Jeanie giving her brother all this time to turn the team around is Jim’s history. Dr. Jerry had to rescue him a few years before the good Doctor died in making corrective moves. This isn’t the 1st time Jim has been unable to prove himself…

          • I think that was the women’s professional tennis effort – outside of the Big 4 – Wimbledon, Forest Hills, Paris and Australia does anyone watch tennis?

I do get your feeling about Jim Buss.

          • I think I heard her in an interview with Cowherd say she has the power to remove her brother from operations director, She also said she wanted to be fair in giving him time to turn the team around… We will find out how patient she really is when the sell outs cease to exist as well as sales from laker promotional items slow down.

          • I think she does. She said she is obligated to the shareholders who own a stake in the Lakers to make a competitive even if it means replacing herself and her brother. And she said her brother has also agreed to that.

        • Yeah, that was pretty pathetic. Jerry West would never have let it come down that way.

    • We will balance the class out with needs. Guys had the same fears last year as well. This current team is thin at the WR position. I believe as we go to a more spread offense there is the need for more WR’s.

      • In my opinion we need 4 in this class. I would take Vaughns and Sidney first over our current WR commits.

        • It’s only July.

Things like that happen, as you know. Schools don’t like to talk about it, but signals get sent, and commits go elsewhere.

Plus, HS senior year is still ahead. Some prospects with rise, others will fall.

Even more important, USC’s season will make or break the class. If USC wins the Pac-12 championship, it will sign the “must gets”, plus a couple of Southeast superstars. Lose the Pac-12 South to UCLA, and USC will be scrambling.

    • Pittman is a big guy..6’4″ and growing. At 205 , listed as an athlete , with the ability to
possibly play other positions. Your spot on about must gets.I believed the staff saw 2015 as great recruits, hence Blue shirts.I think the 2016 national class doesn’t compare to 2015 talent ,so I think coaches are looking for sleepers, Angeline being excellent example.Again as you say the Must gets for remaining spots.. Because 2017 is another loaded class, don’t think we will blue shirt .2016 is yet to play their senior years, ratings will rise on some of our commits, and there will be some shifting .

      • Pittman has awesome size and potential. At first I was on the fence with him, but if we can close out with Vaughns and Sidney I think our WR group looks like the best group of any teams haul. Pittmans dad being a successful incl player will only help to his attitude and determination so I’m good with him coming on board. Now we must be stingy with the remaining rides.

IMO our remaining targets and MUST GETS:
Jordan Elliot DT ( i say we flIP him from Houston)
        Jackie Jones CB
        Devin Asiasi TE/DE
        Outsole Betiku DE
        Lamar Jackson S

          • Thanks. Happy to help. Besides my family. I only look forward to SC football.

        • I’ll tell you, Sark’s got a lot to prove as a oach, but for sweet talking HS talent, he and his staff are awfully good.

Unfortunately, you gotta win, or no line of patter is going to get it done.

          • Yeah. I like Sark, but he’s got a lot to prove this year. But he and himself can sure recruit.

  2. Looks like a “5 star” to me, Wolf. What’s the point, anyway? Troy Polamalu, one of the greatest Trojans and NFL ballers of all time was a 3 star – wish you could put all this star talk in a place where I know no stars shine.

    #Bucket’sBasement

  3. Great pick up for USC. The Trojans seem on their way to another top 5 class.
