  1. What’s up with Washington on Rivals? They are 63rd at the moment with only 4 committed . For those fans of Petersen over Sark, he has some real catching up to do.

    • There was only one Petersen preference over Sark on this site, and that was Scottie. It was always clear he could not coach in the Pac-12 and certainly could not recruit in the Pac-12. UW is losing Washington recruits to other schools left and right.

Can you imagine the makeup and future of USC if Petersen was selected over Sark?

      • I’m with another site as well Helen and it was an all out slugfest there between the Sark camp and Petersen camp a year ago.

On another note Alabama has really turned the heat up. Per Rivals they signed 8 kids this past month .

      • Scott is always very dismissive about the recruiting efforts of this coaching staff. ..Scott’s fallback position is that USC recruits itself. ….he’s reluctant to give the staff any credit where it’s due. ..

    • I keep seeing a lot of players having Washington as one of their top schools. I think they’ll start to pick up players pretty soon.

  2. Sark’s and his staff can really recruit – one of the reasons he got the nod over Petersen, who has always been known for doing more with less. At USC, that’s not the issue, hence the wrong fit. It’s always been about doing more with more for the Trojans, as having a lot of talent poses it’s own particular problems. Not all coaches can handle all that talent like Tollner, Smith, Hackett, et al.

Petersen would have been a good coach at USC, but the L.A. area and Trojan expectations are just not him. Both he and Haden realized this, hence Petersen ended up at UW, with all the Husky fans gloating they had somehow beat USC in the exchange. Not exactly.

In the end, I believe Petersen will do well at UW. His main problem now is beating ORE. Unless he gets a handle on how to do that, I’m afraid his reign will be short, even though Husky fans seem lot more patient than USC’s.

Sark’s got to beat ucla at the Coliseum this year. His probation excuse is officially over and he has the talent to win – now. He and his staff flat out lost some games last season, but lack of depth gave him some wiggle room.

In a season or two, USC will literally be as talented as Carroll’s best teams. The pressure’s now really on Sark and his staff, as it should be. I can’t wait to see how Sark’s team looks this season.

    • Yes Petersen was not and would never have been comfortable dealing with the LA media as you noted both he and Haden ‘sensed’. In addition I’d say OR St. under Andersen may be even more of a problem for WA than OR. The real problem for Helfrich is what to do with Mariotta gone and having OH St. expose the limits of the ‘hurry up’ offense.

I remember just after Sark took the WA job an article in the Times of his recruiting here in the LA area and going up head-to-head with USC et. al..

Noting the gap in skill by Tollner, Smith and Hackett is what impacted the program most of all for those 20 years even taking in Robinson’s 2nd tour. It was glaringly obvious what one individual (great coach) can do (Pete Carroll) upon his arrival.

      • I believe both you and Jack made excellent points. Past few weeks the conversations have been stimulating.. Carroll was great, and his greatness came while a USC coach. He himself developed, while developing teams .To Jack’s point, yes we need to beat UCLA, and more important the staff needs to show they learned from their mistakes of last year..Freshman were recruited who can make immediate impact, along with some depth.I think along with Ucla win, winning the South is a must improvement.. Carroll learned on the Job, my hope is Sark has too.

        • If we beat Ucla and Oregon, we will get some big time players to come out of nowhere for official visits. If the kids from Texas, Florida, and even Georgia and Mississippi see that we are for real then they will come to campus. If that happens…SC’s chances at signing these kids are as good as anyones.

          • Absolutely !!With the season ahead ,Many current, and many freshman excited to see how they play..Think this team has good player leadership.. PAC 12 is strong .As you said before ,Stanford game will be first indication of season ..Staff has shown they can recruit big time, I hope they show they can coach on elite level.

          • We have the talent to win the south. And the whole Pac 12. Upperclassmen who are due to lead, and newcomers who are able to contribute right away and be very effective. It’s all on Sark and Wilcox…

  3. Both USC and Ucla are recruiting well. From what I know… The names left on SC’s recruit board are mostly bigger fish. SC will finish in the top 10 in recruiting. A top 5 or #1 class could be in line with a successful season. I’ve named the big remaining targets yesterday. If we play well we will land a lot of those players. There’s a couple of out of state players who have SC high on their radar. But I didn’t list them because it’s a little premature to get our hopes up for them this early. One name I’ll throw out to watch out for down the lines will be CB Nigel Knott. He’s gonna be a tough one to haul in being from Mississippi, but he’s had serious interest in the school and the Rising Stars camp only helped. A hot start to the season could get him back to campus for an official visit. And look for Chris Wilson and the staff to flip Texas DT Jordan Elliott. He’s commited to Houston and SC has always been his dream school. He was ready to pull the trigger at one time and I keep hearing that he could flip to SC in October when he will allow coaches to communicate with him again. He in my opinion is the #1 priority for us on the Dline because we’re thin at the moment.

  4. How could I forget! WR Trevon Sidney from Bishop Amat and Safety CJ Pollard of Serra are going to announce their college commitments this week at Nike’s The Opening. I thought Sidney was gonna hold off til later to make his decision. But I guess he’s ready now.

Remember that we have three WRs already in the class with Pittmans commitment yesterday. But the staff said they would take five if it were the guys they wanted. Sidney happens to be one of those guys.

My prediction is both Pollard and Sidney pic SC.

    • Most secure path to the NFL runs through University Park’s Howard Jones Field.

    • Something the staff has done that hasn’t been talked about much ,is TE..During spring ,we were hurting big time..If we land Asiasi ,with the walk ons blue shirts, transfers, and new recruits the future will be quite promising…

      • Yeah it went from thin to deep.
        On the Roster:
        Cope-Fitzpatrick
        Petite
        McNamara
        Wilson

Daniel Imatorbhebhe transferring in for next year…..

Cary Angeline committed, and Devin Asiasi possibly committing eventually.

We should definitely put in a two TE package for the redzone next year.

  5. The Scott Wolf blog website has officially turned the corner.

    Excellent!!!
