Morning Buzz: USC Cracks Top 5 In Recruiting Rankings

MARVIN.POLLARD

Thanks to its two latest commitments, USC’s 2016 recruiting class is ranked No. 4 by Rivals.com and No. 5 by 247Sports.com. Scout.com is less impressed as USC is ranked No. 10.

USC pulled off the unlikely feat of getting a recruit (Trevon Sidney) who went to Bishop Amat, home of Adrian Young, Pat Haden, J.K. McKay, Paul McDonald, Randy Tanner, John Jackson, Mazio Royster, Stephon Pace, Daylon McCutcheon . . .  just to name a few former Trojans.

And before that a Serra recruit (C.J. Pollard) whose father (Marvin Pollard, No. 6  above) played at USC. Agonizing decisions for both I’m sure. Now search the message boards to see what idiot says the coaching staff is “doing work.”

UPDATED: I want to be clear that I never said the readers of this blog are idiots. I said “search the message boards” plural. This is a USC blog and contains comments from readers. It is not a message board. I referred to message boards. Any message board. That has nothing to do with this blog, its readers or those who post comments. Thank you.

  1. Or the idiott who hates America, yet gladly enjoys the freedom and liberties which it affords him. …..

  2. You paint a compelling argument for USC recruits itself, Scottie. If USC brings in one recruit from every high school, then they are set for life as that means every recruit for the next 50 years will attend USC. It’s a good thing we are off sanctions.

  3. So last years #1 and this year current top 5 does not take any work.? Cuz, you need to take a step back and think about it.

  4. Dear Moderator,

How does the blogger calling various readers of this blog, “idiots,” conform to your guidelines issued the other month? I believe such as hominems are intended to hurt and demean and have no place on your website.

Furthermore, coming from an employee only damages the LA Daily News image. Internet bullying is all too real and serves no beneficial purpose. Children read this blog, and by allowing the blogger to use such inflammatory rhetoric only makes our job more difficult in teaching good manners and respect, even with whom we may disagree.

I would like the blogger’s post to either be deleted or amended so no one is insulted by his “idiot” comment. It would also be productive for the blogger to apologize to his readers for his intentional insult.

Should you choose to respond to my comment, please respond publicly and not only to me as others may be interested in how you view the blogger’s insulting comment with respect to your guidelines.

    Respectfully,
    Gordo Albondigas

    • Don’t insult Tom Petty. He wrote Wolfie’s favorite words, “even the losers get lucky sometimes”

  5. Wow, calling the readers of this blog idiots for appreciating the very hard work that Sark and Co are obviously putting in? What kind of monster are you?

Truly offended by this post – please, moderator, do your job and protect the public. This is now out of control.

  6. I was going to try to post a comment on this topic, but I’m just an idiot, so I will go somewhere else that is not so mentally challenging, I’ll be back when the topic is not so complex.

  7. Maybe I should mockingly post “I hate USC” after everything Wolf says rather than Owns.

  8. Time after time Wolf shows what the word “idiot” means and then Bucket comes along and congratulates him. If only the daily news could hire a real writer that WORKED at his profession we might have something worthwhile here.

    • Smells like my college right or wrong.

PropellerHead + steveg – Birds of a feather.

        • Much prouder than you since you Rah-Rah represent the #1 most sanctioned NCAA DIV 1 FB team/ program. Cheat on baby; cause if Klown U isn’t cheating, it isn’t winning.

          • But at least we are not underachieving. Mediocre on little guy. Did Roquan enroll yet?

  9. Wow, I was waiting to see how long this “filtered” blog would last and it is the blogger himself trying to tear it down? However…. since when is it fair for the reader-posters to call Wolfie an idiot at every chance and he can’t return the favor?

    • Scott made the rules, not the readers, and he assured us that the moderator would be enforcing the rules consistently and unilaterally. …..Ha!

  10. Wolf did you even hear Sidney when he announced his verbal commitment? He himself said it was not a sure thing, and he was still going to take his official visits. He has not even stepped foot outside the state of California, so do you think he’s not going to be impressed by Notre Dame, Michigan, LSU, etc…?

Sounds like Sark and staff will have their WORK cut out for them even keeping this kid. For someone who is so cynical you sure see USC recruiting pretty black and white. Try to get past your hatred for your alma mater and see that this staff really is doing work on the recruiting trail!

    • I don’t think many readers, and certainly not Scottie, appreciate how much time and effort goes into college recruiting. This is a 12-month job that never stops. I’ll bet the coaches actually look forward to the dead periods.

But you have to appreciate the humor in the Cut-n-Paste King making fun of Sark for working his fanny off to recruit and noting that Sark should instead just sit back and let the recruits come to him – just like the reporting on this blog.

      • Seriously, thank goodness Scott’s attitude is confined within the range of this web page

  11. Scott, you should seriously read you last few days worth of posts and consider just how burned out you are. Doughnuts, sloppy type-o’s, calling kids “idiots” because language has evolved in the past 30 years, degrading a kid’s commitment to SC because Pat Haden went to his HS 45 years ago and the ever-present complaining about changes in uniforms. I always feel that the true hallmark of great reporting is a grinding sense of bitterness. You are getting lapped by pretty much every other outlet so badly that you now just pull quotes, cut & paste or just post links to other papers and blogs. When was the last time that you posted a timely football related piece where you didn’t cite someone else’s work? I’d miss the unintended comedy that this has devolved into, but I think it might be time for you to stop “doing work”.

    • Double standards rule the blog. His cyber stalking attack poodle is culling the archives now to cite the blogger’s prescient pearls I’m sure…

  12. I love the mocking tone and implication that the coaching staff has things on cruise control. This class has commits from seven different states and MLB hasn’t even played the All-Star game yet.

  13. BUT..if these kids did not commit to USC, Wolf would have been first in line to tell us that the coaching staff cannot even sign players with USC ties..Wolf should just hang it up, he is “intelligent challenged” (we have to be nice now, right?) and flat out lame. Like EvilRobot says…it’s about time for Wolf to go, he continues to be uninspired and only goes after the low hanging fruit…we deserve better. (by “we” I do not include bucket, just to be clear. He gets what he deserves)

    • Scott already gave the coaching staff grief last year for not signing Sean Harlow….

  14. You know what they say about those who live in glass houses, don’t you Scotty?

  15. Very negative post Scott Wolf. Unecessary and blatantly against the new positivity protocol for the Scott Wolf blog website.

  16. Idiot…You insult someone on a message board. But you ban or redflag posters on this board.

  17. Scott,

you do realize even though USC is a Brand Name that most people in America know compared to tough U aka ugly, which is barely recognized here in L.A., you still need the coaches to recruit, follow up, and inform the recruit on why it is better to go to USC than ND or ASU. (Notice I did not mention Thug U because most kids know that they will end up at a dead end job like being a pizza delivery man) and the coaches have to do their homework on the kid to determine if he is worthy of the most coveted scholarship in America. Yes, Scott, coaches do the work. Sometimes these coaches have to inform them that they would make the worst decision in their life if they were to attend Thug U aka ugly. Then they have to ensure that the kids get the signed scholi to the school and then coach them up. So to say “coaches doing work” is a slap to the coaches and fans of the best college in America, USC.

  18. Ivve said it before and I’ll say it again.. WHY does USC let this anti-USC so called journalist (really just a glorified bach bencher blogger) even in the doors to USC.

  19. It’s July. There is a long why to go. This class could look very different the first Wednesday in February. It’s pretty simple at this stage. Win on the field the class will be great, loose, not so great. Scooter’s the idiot. No place recruits itself, but USC is an easy place to recruit to. The work is put in from the time most these kids were Sophomores, especially the local kids.

  20. I want to be clear that I never said the readers of this blog are idiots. I said “search the message boards” plural. This is a USC blog and contains comments from readers. It is not a message board. I referred to message boards. Any message board. That has nothing to do with this blog, its readers or those who post comments. Thank you.

  21. Gee, I thought that Scott NEVER reads the comments on this BLOG……why the need for an explanation / pseudo apology?

  22. Ohhhh…. so only the people who post on the MESSAGE BOARDS are “idiots”…. that makes your insult much more palatable……Thanks, Scott
