USC Allows Fox To Sell Naming Rights To The Coliseum

COLISEUM.1948USC has reportedly signed a six-year agreement with Fox Sports to sell the naming rights to the Coliseum according to Sports Business Journal. Fox already manages USC’s marketing and media rights so it’s a natural progression. But what will they come up with? How about Fox Sports 1 Coliseum? Fox Sports 2 Coliseum? FX Coliseum? I would suggest calling it the George Tirebiter Coliseum.

Will anyone even call it anything besides the Coliseum? Perhaps. Some people used to say Great Western Forum instead of Forum. Naturally, I was not one of them. The above picture is from 1948 and I can’t help notice how easy it was to get to the field in those days.

  1. Wonder how that plays with the fact that it has always been the Memorial Coliseum. In reference to those who served in US World Wars.

    • I agree…. something like L.A. Memorial Coliseum, by FOX Sports would seem to be a little more respectful……

    • Yeah when I look at those two naked statues below the peristyle I always think of those who died in the Spanish American War.

  2. It makes sense. Explicitly in section 4.6 of the master lease it states; “Tenant [USC] shall be responsible for the entire cost of all utilities, taxes, and other costs and expenses attributed to the operation, maintenance, repair and replacement of the Premises [Coliseum/Sports Arena property], including all improvements located thereon.” Additionally, USC is required by section 4.4 of the master lease to pay the Coliseum Commission’s annual operating expense costs through monthly payments of $12,500 to the Commission. Lastly, section 13.2 states; “All construction work performed on the Premisses [Coliseum/Sports Arena property] shall be done at Tenant’s [USC’s] sole cost and expense and in a good and workmanlike manner.”

      • That’s Winnfield with two “n”s CB. “The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.”

        • The Holy Roller tent is up, and tonight Elmer will kiss rattlesnakes,”heal the sick, raise the dead, and make little girls talk out of their heads.”

  3. Not wild about this one….How about Champion – the sports outfitter? Champion’s Coliseum? Sounds nice….

  4. “Naturally, I was not one of them.” Bwahahaha! You’re a funny dude, Woof Woof!

I think that friends and Romans would prefer to call it the Faux Coliseum.
