USC Picture Of The Day

USC.UCLA.1969This photo is from the 1969 USC-UCLA game at the Coliseum, best known for a controversial 32-yard TD catch by WR Sam Dickerson that enabled USC to win, 14-12. Was Dickerson inbounds? Anyways, this photo features “Wild Bunch” defensive end Charlie Weaver (No. 84) and all-Pac-8 offensive guard Dennis Alumbaugh (No. 67).

  1. The USC-UCLA end of season football games in 1965, 1966, 1967, and 1968 were exciting, well coached, well played. IMO, college football at its best. Why is that ? Not one but two outstanding Head Coaches, J. McKay and T. Prothro. First, the extraordinary Beban led come from behind victory in 1965 (my freshman year). Did that ever hurt….until USC’s O.J./Sogge/Rossovich/Adrian Young/Mike Battle/Biil Hayhoe whiplash of UCLA in 1967, with the Trojan eventually winning yet another NCAA National Football Championship. Great games. All 4 of them……..what ever became of UCLA’s QB Norm Dow ?
